Video of First Track Experience!!!

Well I just have my first day at the track ever with any car. I have to say, it was a blast. It was hot as hell, ambient temps were probably around 85°. Track was Beaver Springs in PA at an elevation of 632. Well here is the results.

1st run: Against '88 mr2 supercharged (16.536)

Time - 10:48 am
R/T - .792
60' - 2.602
330 - 6.504
1/8 - 9.609
MPH - 78.58
1000 - 12.3000
1/4 - 14.526
MPH - 101.99

2nd run: Against same mr2 (16.103)

Time - 11:11 am
R/T - .445
60' - 2.464
330 - 6.382
1/8 - 9.511
MPH - 78.55
1000 - 12.212
1/4 - 14.446
MPH - 101.87

3rd run: Against same mr2 (15.834)

Time - 12:03 pm
R/T - .725
60' - 2.417
330 - 6.255
1/8 - 9.355
MPH - 79.07
1000 - 12.029
1/4 - 14.232
MPH - 104.76

4th run: Stage 2 SRT-4 (he said he didn't have the wastegate of the stage 2, just pcm and injectors, so still on stock boost) he ran 14.883

Time - 1:42 pm
R/T - .535
60' - 2.226
330 - 6.045
1/8 - 9.141
MPH - 78.61
1000 - 11.839
1/4 - 14.080
MPH - 100.76

Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uXRJ_oTi8g

5th run: I had a passenger to show them the experience and so did the mr2, mr2 video taped me passing him . mr2 ran 16.398

Time - 2:09 pm
R/T - .566
60' - 2.329
330 - 6.297
1/8 - 9.454
MPH - 76.90
1000 - 12.205
1/4 - 14.485
MPH - 98.64

All in all I think I did pretty good. I went in hoping for 13s, a 2.2 60', and trapping over 100. I know the heat killed me and I noticed a little wheel hop on the first 3 runs. Evo guys were telling me since after I run the tires get really hot and kinda sticky all the stones stick to the tires when I sit and wait. I would then just go and run. They recommended when I was getting ready to stage instead of do a full out burnout to just try to spin them a couple times, get the **** off of them. Well I did that and pulled a 2.2 so I would say it worked. Let me know what you guys think for my first passes ever. I am going to make my way down to Maple Grove, where my friends are from, to run there in the fall, when it cools down. I don't think I will have trouble pulling 13s on a nice cool night. What I also forgot to add is up to 330 ft the track is uphill, you can tell my looking at it. When we staged we had to hold the ebrake or you would drift back, that took a while for me to get used to. I wanted to just sit there in neutral and launch having it in first. Let me know what you think.

My mods:
- Stage 2 with 2.9" pulley
- Airbox mod - Dryflow
- ZZP downpipe with cat
- GM cat-back
- Ingalls
- Tires - Falken FK 452 (maybe 2000 miles on them) 225/45/18

Thanks man. Yeah the first run I just about stalled the damn thing, 2nd run and 3rd run had a little wheel hop, and the 3rd against the srt-4 was just crazy. I got into it pretty hard and it just freekin hooked. Yeah I wasn't consistent with 60s at all but hey it was my first time. That and the fact that the staging area was downhill kinda pissed me off. I have the movie on the desktop if anyone wants to see it like through AIM but its like 230 mb. I have a bunch of runs on there. If I can figure out how to just cut out like my two runs that are on there I could send some people them.

Yeah I think in the fall when we go to Maple I should be able to get 13s if I can pull that 2.2 again. I had the tires at 25 psi by the way.

I was actually surprised how much of a top end mine had. I mean the mr2 would get me a little off the line, he only pulled a 2.2, but my R/T blows. It doesn't matter so whatever. But once I got out of first man it just freekin pulls like a mother. I can't wait to get a cobra heat exchanger on it and run in the cool weather.

bump for the night crew

Well I very new to this site and just purchase a 07' Cobalt SS/SC myself and I must say I am enjoying every bit of it!! I really want to take to the track and see what it runs now before I do any mods to it!! I really can use any feed back or suggestions on mods I should go with and purchase! I already know my first mod will be to upgrade to the stage 2 ss and put a cold air intake. I hope I get to know some of you and maybe see some of you in the streets!! By the way good runs man! I just can't wait!!

Thanks a lot. I would seriously highly recommend an Ingalls ETD before you go to the track. People have broken axles stock because of bad wheel hop. I would seriously look into the Ingalls or Turbo Tech Racing engine and tranny mounts they have before you even take it to the track. It will only make you feel safer because you will have reduced wheel hop greatly if not completely. Good luck with the car.

Thanks man. 86 holy ****. Yeah the run against the srt-4 was my best. It just hooked coming off the line. Yeah if it wasn't so damn hot out and the track not being level I would had 13s for sure. I have the video of like 6 runs, 2 are mine, but I am not sure how to edit them out and post them. The whole video is a mpeg. I made a edited dvd out of it but if I can figure out how to cut some out to get the file size down I'll post it for you guys to see.

Video is uploading now. I will post the link soon as it is done.

Well let me look at the slip quick...

srt-4 slip:

R/T - 0.681
60' - 2.657
330 - 6.613
1/8 - 9.825
MPH - 77.88
1000 - 12.552
1/4 - 14.883
MPH - 97.98

He said he has the mopar stage 2 and the mopar exhaust but did not have the waste gate part of the stage 2 so he was still on stock boost. He said he bought the kit used. He said stock it went low 15s. I saw him come in and my buddy said he was stage 2 (had the badge on the back) so I was like nice this should be a good run, always wanted to run one, especially stage 1 or 2. Well he ran a 14.9 his first run, spun like a mother off the line. So I knew then I would beat him pretty good.

Yeah... I mean my first was a 2.6 yeah. I can make excuses all day, it was my first pass ever, I think that explains it. I got better every single run except for when I took the friend along for the last pass. Yeah I don't think he could drive it. Well the 2.6 shows he couldn't... Wouldn't it be bad for it to be running the stage 2 pcm and injectors but without the boost? Wouldn't it run rich as hell top end?

Yeah I dunno. He said it was an '04 I believe because it has a LSD also. His buddies just kept commenting on how mine ran and how clean the motor area was lol.

I would say that with those times and elevation that there is plenty of room for improvement. 13's should be easy if you work on your shifting. Your mph should be pretty consistent within a mile or 2. You should be around 104 ever time. All in all you did very well for your first time at the track. I would say you did pretty good if this was the first time at the track with this car and have had plenty of racing experience. This car is just hard to drive at the track, and takes some getting used to. I wish I could get down to a 2.2 60'. I believe if I could get a 2.2 60 I would be very very low 13's and with a 2.0 I think that would be good enough for high 12's. Just thoughts and only time will tell.

Yeah I think when it is nice and cool out + the cobra heat exchanger I want to add 13s shouldn't be out of my reach. I want to go to a better track in the fall when it cools off. I hope I can still pull at least a 2.2 there.

I started taking a cooler full of bags of ice and put a bag on the blower when in the staging lanes. If works great and keeps the temps down. After a pass mine is screaming hot. A dual bypass and HE are in my future as well.

Yeah I had ice packs on the blower while I was in the pits just hanging out and I had two jumpers made to keep the pump and fans on. Worked real nice. How long has people been on the stock clutch and taking it to the track a couple times? I thought it gripped pretty good to be honest.

Morning bump for people at work.

Yeah, well i never shift below 3,000 and that was the first time I was ever there. Car has almost 23,000 on it now. I will probably make one more trip with it and call it good.

Yeah I know. My dad is a mechanic so install would be free but yeah I know its not cheap and is a bitch. I wouldn't even know which one I would want to begin with. I would something that is pretty much like the stock one just grips and doens't slip at all. I saw the Exedy looks pretty good with the flywheel combo.
