I just went last weekend. If you go to the Ape Cave, bring flashlights and headlamps. Also wear some good shoes/hiking boots. I saw a girl in the cave with flip-flops on and her toes were all bloody. You can rent lanterns for $4 at the trail head. Ape Canyon is closed because the road was washed out last season. You can drive from the cave to Windy Ridge observation area and I highly recomend it! the road is sooooo kick ass. I got stuck behind traffic a couple of times. I would just pull off for a few minutes and all was good for a while longer. Have fun! Be careful on those roads, some are a bit decieving.
so one last call. Im in, who else is.... where should we meet and im not taking charge... ive never drove there, so someone else should make the plab :-p

There is a visitors center in Castle Rock. That's the way to Johnson Observation area. Woodland has one too (I think). Woodland is the way to the Ape Cave and Windy Ridge. Both ways are breath taking!
Man, I want to participate in this cruise. It's really frustrating working the weekends! I do get out and cruise quite a bit on my days off though. Mon. Tue, and Wed is good for that being as when I get out, there is almost no traffic. I got a yearly pass to the Mt. Rainier National Park and only been up there a few times so far. If people from the North want a good day of cruising to Mt. St Helens, you should go through the Mt. Rainier passes to Randle and cut down that way. If anyone wants to cruise early in the week, let me know.
