first mod - k&n intake!!

welp, i finally got around to ordering an intake for my car. ordered the k&n typhoon friday, shipped monday, got it tuesday around 1pm from cobalt addiction. goig to the dealer in less than an hour to get it installed as i don't want to screw with my warrenty, plus i'm not very mechanically inclined when it comes to cars. i know, i just can't do. lol. man i really can't wait. only thing i'm wondering about is if i should put the little boot on. i live in rhode island which gets snow a few times in the winter. i had a cavalier z24 with cowl induction and never had a problem so i don't expect any problems with the cold air.

pics:

intake - filter was a LOT bigger than i expected, and i also was expecting an aluminum tube for some reason, not a pvc/plastic tube, but it doesn't matter as long as it stays solid.

before - never noticed the 'gm performance' emblem before today for some reason (little silver block)

i'll post after pictures when i get back. its looking like rain so it may not be until the weekend. man i can't wait!!

You should post before and after sounds as well so we know the difference in sound.

If you buy a cold air intake and have it installed at the dealership it wont void your warranty?

Damn your dealership is installing it? LOL. That's pretty sweet actually.
My Injen CAI should be here soon as well, going to install it right after. Maybe I'll make a little video.

Wait, the tube is plastic?

I had no idea, I suddenly wish I'd ordered the injen :\

EDIT: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...Prod=69-4516TS
This is what I ordered, it states it's an alum tube, are you SURE yours is plastic? Something doesn't seem right.

Look at where the MAF goes in on the K&N CAI , you can't weld on plastic . Look at the nice weld around that area . It must be light enuff that the OP thought it was plastic.

Theres nothing wrong with a plastic Arm...I just bought a AFE CAI for my Dodge ram and Its recommended Because the Metal arms cause road noise and sometimes knocking noises...Not saying this will happen on a Cobalt Just my 2 cents

I see what your saying, but aluminum or powder coating just looks better imo

I bought the Typhoon because I heard it makes the Supercharger sound the best. I am very happy with it. With the Intake and the Exhaust its a great combo. People who dont know what a Supercharger sounds like probably think I need to fill my Power Steering reservoir. hahaha

I have the typhoon. **** is really loud. Never heard the blower untill I put this on. Only thing that sucks is that the little gasket they give you to put around the metal fell off. So it makes a **** load of noise sometimes.

I imagine it ain't too hard to fab something up to fix that.

Did you just slap it in and expect it to fit perfectly? If I've learned anything about mechanics, it's that you have put a lot of love into making stuff fit just right...

whoa, old post. yeah, my dealership installed it, only question they asked was 'so the part's in the car?' which was cool cause i'm leasing my car. it's made out of a pvc material, which at first i didn't like, but once i started thinking about it, i actually really kind of like it because it's really light and i don't have to worry about rust or anything. the only bad thing is that it rubs up against one of the heatsinks on the computer, so i need to put something in between before it wears a hole into the intake.

as far as sound goes.... oh man. you hear the supercharger easily in 2nd when you're under normal acceleration. hammer it while you're driving next to a jeresy barrier with the window open and it's so loud it makes your ears ring... in a good way. i've since gotten stage 2 put in, but didn't have enough warm weather to keep the windows open. stage 2 spins up faster, so i'm REALLY looking forward to spring. lol.

it should fit pretty much pefectly. you may just have to wrestle it around a little bit to get it exactly where you want it. don't forget the engine moves around a lot, so what may look clear when the cars off may hit or rub somethign when you get on it and when you let off.

Then I'm sorry, but you have unrealistic expectations. The engineers that design these products have only factory dimensions to work with, and there are hundreds of variables that influence this kind of thing. You say yours is a bad fit. I would bet money that if I were to work on it, I'd be able to make it work a lot better, assuming nothing is actually damaged.

You paid that much money for the brand name, the looks. The same performance can come from a 20$ airbox mod if you so desired.

Dude , if yours isn't aluminum then it's a black market CAI. K&N's are not made out of pvc plastic pipe .
