I was hanging out with a few friends the other nite at pizza hut when this mustang pulled up and started talking shit about the ss/sc and he said he beats cobalts all the time now i have nothing against the other cobalts because i use to own the ltz and upgraded to the ss/sc 6 months later, so i explained to him that there is a difference between the ss and the ss/sc in power and explained it to him and i guess all he had raced was the ss. I did not race him because i had just got outta court 2 days ago and beat a reckless driving charge so i am not racing anymore on the streets and i had a cop come by while i was talking to friends and he asked me if i was going out street racing tonight cuz he was going to be keeping an eye out for my car. Just wondering if anybody else gets people who dont know the difference between the ss and the ss/sc like i said above i have no problems with the other balts it just gets annoying when people think they can beat the ss/sc when all theve really beat is the lower model.

thanks man i own a ls lol only reason is money issues. if it wasnt for me oweing 10k on my lancer and they only gave me 5 for it i would have got this yellow ss/sc that had a stage 2 upgrade already on it it was 23 or 24k but if i would have went to finance a car straight up i could have got that. Everyone around here says a cobalt is a glorified cavalier, im like no the cobalts taillights look way better than the last model cav with the huge silver thing in the middle on the back lol

yes its a very common misconception ppl have. In my area everyone seems to assume an SS has a 2.0 LSJ as well, even my friends were under that same misconception until i showed them that the ss 2.4 is like a base version of the SS cobalt line up and the ss/sc is the upper model

according to production numbers they made a bit more of the 2.4s then the supercharged, not alot more, like 4% of the total cobalt production compared to the 3% for the ss/sc, but a bit more. and while people might be smoking the ss/sc most of them dont realize they beat a different car then a normal cobalt.

Oh yes, that happens a lot. Most people don't know there are two SS models. Everyone thinks if you beat a cobalt with the wing than its an SS....or if it has an ss badge, its the fastest trim. Bottomline, those people are dumb as all hell. And yes, I have heard the upgraded cavy line before, thats old new. Don't worry about it dude. Just explain the difference, and go on about your business. There was even a video of a stock altima beating a 2.4L and he kept saying "Altima beating a cobalt ss....altima beating a cobalt ss", and then when all the people who know about cobalts let him know it wasn't an ss/sc, he got all defensive, saying, "Its still a cobalt ss!!!"

x2..also, I see more 2.4L's all the time. They made automatic variables, so that the everyday person can drive it. Of course there are more on the road, and people constantly mistake the 2. All they see is SS and think thats the fastest version. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of stuff that beats up on the ss/sc, but not like most of these people are talking about.

yeah my friend has a cavilier z24 and he rants about how sweet his car is and how much cooler his are. I have a 2.2 manual and he has the manula 2.4 and i smoke him 24/7. he did a few mods and claims its so much faster. i can't wait until i drop a new stage 2 clutch in mine and blow by him some more! but yeah i hate ppl who talk shit about cobalts. i have another friend with an eclipse 2.4 and he barely keeps up with me, and he used to talk so much shit..."Its a chick car" "Its just a cobalt" lmao...i see more girls driving cavy's n eclipses than cobalts. ;) :cssNET:

i get alot of people thinking my car is a supercharged...i pulled into the canadian tire parking lot in my buddies mustang..(v6 auto coupe rofls) and his buddy in a probe gt was like..dude lets race..ill get my ass kicked but itll be fun, so me in the passenger seat ask him, can your probe beat a cobalt? and hes like haha yeah i smoke cobalts all the time! so i say, ok i got a 100 bucks that says different, he starts to laugh and before he says deal his buddy chirps in and says "Ask him if its a SS" so he asks me and i smile and nod my head, and hes like..ohh shit i annt racing that, those are supercharged and will kick my ass...that is when we decided that these pot smoking druggies wernt worth our time so we drove off.

moral of the story is, in a 2.4 i get mixed reviews, i get people who wants to race me in cleary slower cars, who think im a base cobalt (debaddged rear) and people who cleary wont race me in cars that are substantial to my car but think that b/c i dont have the wing im a base cobalt..GRR it makes me mad some times....i got wing envy :(

I tend to get this scenario with my SS/NA.

I can't get ANYONE in a honda, Toyota, Hyundai, mustang v6, or any other variation of riced out piece of crap to even look at me on the road. They just pretend like they don't see me and drive REALLY cautiously until I'm too far away.
But I get the Mustang GTs, 350z's, Audi's, and any variation of performance car that costs more than $30k that constantly pull up to me to scope me out.

Heres a good one. Was just at sheetz (gas station) and saw a very nice silver ss/sc parked with two kids looking at my lil 2.4. I was paying for my grub and saw that they parked next to my balt checking it out. I went out the opposite door so I could do a sneak attack from the side. I heard the driver say "yeah but why does it have that wing?" I walked up to my door and gave them a hey nice car. They said nothing....crickets....kinda awkward and not very nice I might add. But then again I did startle them. The deer in headlights stare they had was kinda funny. Anyway, I got the impression that they thought it was a SS/SC. So maybe even some ss/sc owners have a bit of trouble at times. I feel your pain SS/SC owners..I would get annoyed too with everyone mixing the trims up. I didn't get my 2.4 to be a pretender. It was the best fit for me and the twins I have coming into this world. I wanted to avoid the 4 door SUV thing and stay sporty. What I got was every civic, wrx, mustang etc.. wanting to "go". I just might have to resort to those cheesy yellow baby on board suction cup things :thumbsdow
