Anyone Running Stage 3 8k Redline??
Anyone Running Stage 3 8k Redline??
I was looking to run an 8k redline with the stage 3 kit. GM says bates engineering offers valve springs that dont require modifying the stock head. However, Bates engineering says I need to buy a retainer, seats, and seals. Do I still need all these parts, or can I just buy the springs?
Nah, should be fine. The balance shafts are going to add 10 hp, and having an 8k redline will allow me to get the most out of every gear. I like the idea of 1st gear ending at around 50+ mph.
I'm not running stage 3 but I do have an 8k redline.
I'm using Supertech 78lb dual coil valve springs with their additional seat locators and titanium retainers. Also neutral balance shafts and a whole bunch of other mods.

do u need the whole bunch of other parts to run the 8k? Is it safe running the 8k?
I hit 8k on an almost daily basis on my 45 minute drive to work. No problems so far.
I got 60lbers, but Im not going to use them really. I decided to go stage 3 kit instead, and wont be going any smaller than the 76mm pulley provided in the kit. Im actually selling them if u know anyone whos interested.

yea, to be on the safe side. I dont have $$ for pistons, so Im gonna stay with the 2.9.

I usually shift around 7600 rpm. The car seems to lose some steam after that probably because of the supercharger being spun too fast. If I'm spraying I keep it down until 8 though.
How much power is your car putting down?
lolz, very nice. Ill bet with the stage 3 pulley I probly wont lose power in the 7500+ range.
Not a clue. Works been busy and I don't have a scheduled day off to make an appointment at the shop where I had my base dyno done.
AlphaJaguar over on the redline forums has a nearly similar setup to me just without the nitrous. He's probably going to beat me to a dyno. I've just been so busy with other projects such as that 2.4 turbo project we did, an LSJ turbo swap and now another complete engine rebuild I haven't had any time to play with my own car.
If you use a stage 3 pulley you'll probably put down a bit higher numbers on the dyno since engine volumetric efficiency increases with rpm and you wouldn't be victim to overspinning the blower as much. A slightly smaller one might make a faster car as you'll have a more linear torque curve and it will be less "peaky".
Just all imo.

He's using the GM Stage 3 kit which will continue to make power to 8k on the bottle.
LOL, its like being at the bar, just with no bar, and no beer.

I was told that on stock internals the highest you can go with the rev-limiter is 7200, because one you go past that you greatly increase the chances of "floating a valve" is that true?
