Rims first or suspension first?

I apologize you guys if this is in the wrong category but should I lower my cobalt first or buy the rims first?......... I am kinda a "Scrooge" with my money so i don't really wanna spend 1,300 hundred for some tires and rims right now even though i really want to. Can I get by dropping my base cobalt with the Eibach sport line springs which drops it about 2" and waiting a few months to buy my 18" rims? and sorry if the thread has already been asked I searched for the answer for a good hour but i couldn't find so here i am.

Your looking at spending $1300 on wheels/tires but holding off on suspension?
Get them both at the same time. One alignment.

lower it..align it...then put rims on
it won't look too bad on stock rims, better than it did completely stock! and the springs will already be settled for your nice rims, then get it realligned

Honestly i know i might get flamed for this... but i say rims first because sometimes the fitting can be alittle wierd.. yet i do agree with the guys that say both.. so do whatever you want

rims FIRST, then drop it, so you wont be limited to the rims you can get.

Springs for sure. Lower it so it can look like a car instead of a small truck, lol.

I've tried it both ways... IF YOU CAN!! hold off and do both at the same time.. but if not... go with the springs first.. i had a TRUE 4x4 Chevy blazer that i put 20's on with 255/35/20 tires and everyone said that my truck sat too high for the wheels.. Lowering the car first will make the car look better even on stock wheels... just swithing out the wheels you're gonna keep saying to yourself.... "I gotta hurry up and lower this thing... it looks like im going MUDDIN' " LOL

Lower first.. you may even find you'll be happier with smaller wheels than you previously thought - and save some $$ which is important to you.

And you won't neccessarily have to get an alignment with the new wheels anyhow, if you do it won't be severe.

Edit - You DO need to alight post-Springs though.

aha! lower it first.
then find out the rims you can.
i say just hold on to the rims/springs and put them on at the same time....problem SOLVED

depends...if all you're doing is throwing in Springs and not aftermarket struts/shocks, then rims first...save up and lower it properly. I'd save up and do it all at once, rims, struts and springs.

SPRINGS!!!.....the 4x4 look is horrible. Stock gap isnt very noticable when you have stock rims on but as soon as you put wheels on you and everyone else will notice the ugly gap. Just my .02 though.

X2

rims first man.... then calculate ur drop. No good going 20s and having no room to drop or 18s and needing a larger drop.

well if a balt ss can take 18"s with that stock gap and still afford the further lowering my ls should be fine with a 2" drop with 18"s

my 2 cents also...
If you're interested in mud bogging, then, RIMS FIRST!
if not, drop it like its hawt
