I don't know the site either. I would like to know too though. However good luck. I hope you have enough money to buy it and install it.

Yeah I thought it was around $1500. I think it will be another $1000 to install too. Thanks atwilson for the info :)

Yeah, I'm wondering why the hell the Quaife for the SS/Redline is so damn expensive. I have lots of friends who got them on numerous other cars for well under $1k. Hopefully the price will go down and/or another company will come out with one.

I wish I would have waited to get the g85. For the same price it would have already been installed and would have got the Recaros.

Yeah I would have had to lose the GM discount and a whole lot of dealer incentives to get the G85 on mine and would have made it way more expensive, plus I don't like the Recaros. Oh well, guess I'll either have to save up the money or see if something a little more reasonable comes out in the meantime.

I don't like the way they look, but I have read they are more supportive. My truck was going down hill so I had to ditch it before it got too expensive to repair.

They are more supportive to an extent. But they didn't hit me right, the bulky sides got in the way too much. I just personally did not like them, I drove a car with them after I had already bought mine and that made me all the more glad I didn't get them.

aparently looks can be changed ... if you get a g85 package 'after' having already purchased your car the recaro's should be in that package and you should be able to pick a color scheme such as black on red ... im having a guy at a dealership look into it for me since he is in charge of the aftermarket parts department ... he said if the g85 package simply included the seats or were included in the cost then the recaro's should be in that very same package

I was told g85 can only be ordered from the factory. You can put your own together but you're paying full price (or close to it) for everything, so $1500 for the Quaife, full price for the seats, plus install. If you can find a way to do it that'd be awesome, but my inquiries with several dealerships were that g85 is factory-install only (at least as a package).

Did you plan on installing it yourself or having someone else do it? I would like to know how hard it is or how much it will cost.

Ive just put in a call to Quaife, but their getting ready to go to Sema and have limited staff.

Ill check into it, and see if we can stock it here, and or at least get the part numbers and everything set for it so that we can offer it to Cobalt customers.

It's not gonna be even close to a bolt on, even for an experienced mechanic.

Yeah i'm going to have a tranny shop do it, I prob don't have the proper tools and definitly don't have a nice clean area to do it at. Like someone on here said "If you wanna play you gotta pay." I'll prob do the clutch at the same time so i can be prepared for more power. Maybe a lighter flywheel as well if i can find one.

u think thats crazy i went to my dealer to see how much just the LSD was before install
$4200 (CAN) about $3500(US). Needless to say i left without saying a word.

Yeah, my dealership told me it was gonna cost $3200 US to buy just the LSD. I told them they were insane.

As far as the LSD installation goes, you need to be able to have the car on a full lift at least 3 feet up. Then drop the engine with the tranny, rack and wheels. The whole thing needs to come down. That's not even close to what 99% or people can do in the their garage at home with a weekend.

myoshizawa819
11-08-2005, 12:00 PM
You don't have to drop the engine. You can leave it in by rigging it from above. But, yes the entire engine cradle sub-frame and front drivetrain all the way out to the brakes comes out.

I want to do a clutch. But after studying the clutch replacement procedure in the service manual I don't know if I have the balls to do it at home.

I just got a magazine that has one in the new parts section. It weigh 8.5 lbs. and is made by Fidanza. They also make one for the 2.2L.

Yeah it's in the Dec issue of HCI. My dad saw that and picked it up for me. The mag also has an article about tuning the Ecotec cams.

It's a magazine, Hot Compact & Imports. The cover has a Red Scion tC w/ CF hood. The article is more or less an ad summary.

So an update on the LSD, The part should be at the quaife store by the end of next week. I talked to a couple tranny places and so far one said 1500 for install and the other said 1000 if they remove it from

the car or 500 if i take it out myself which i might do. The first price i heard really turned me off to doing but i felt better after i talked to someone who knew something. I'm going to do a light flywheel and

stage 2 clutch at the same time so i'll be prepared for the added power when i get to that point.

I don't think so but I could be wrong. Anyway most autos now have traction control which pretty much eliminates the need for the LSD.

$1500!? There's ones for the Z I can get my hands on for just under $700 and installed for under $900!

Chevypowered
11-16-2005, 11:34 PM
Last i checked i wasn't driving a Z and quaife makes the best and only LSD for ours cars Although i would go with their product even if other cheaper ones were out. I think i will be installing it my self so it will be free except for time which isn't a huge isue

yikes...my bad...don't really appreciate the troll treatment :wtf:

i'm just saying that $1500 seems like a lot of money when LSD's (including Quaife) usually go for ANY car for about $650-$1000. i was surprised to see a price tag of $1500, that's all...

i'm gonna wait and see if Cusco or Kaaz might come out with an LSD next spring, maybe better, maybe cheaper who knows.

guess i should be careful what i say until i actually have the Cobalt. can't wait till the end of the month...

I saw something similar on Tuner Transformation. They installed it on a Mini Cooper S they put the JCW package on. It goes inside the differential. It would take the same amount of work to install it as it would the Quaife.

The thing they installed on the Mini was the actual LSD.
