Rear Wheel Drive craziness?
Rear Wheel Drive craziness?
Does anyone know if it would be possible to swap a cobalt over to RWD? I've heard people saying that it's been done, and I know that it can be. My question is simply How do you do it, and Cost.
If it matters, I have an Automatic 07 LS.

look up victoryredss
he may be able to shed some light on this....
im curious why people consider it a waste of money?
your pretty much saying gardellas car is a waste of money....jason hunts car is a waste of money.....
ALL drag racing is a waste of money then i guess.
All i see here is people who think that because THEY dont have the money to drop on
something like this.....then therefore its a waste.
His money, His car, His choice. more power to him.

What do you really want out of RWD?
If it is simply the rwd on a Cobalt without the power then the cost of doing it will be much cheaper than my project.
If you want to go for insane power but never take it to a sanctioned race track, then that too is cheaper to do than my project.
If you want to go to the track and just make it really fast and only in a straight line, then this option is also cheaper than my project.
If you can do the work of converting to RWD, including fabricating a chassis that will pass government inspections, again your project will be cheaper than mine.
BUT
if you want to build a very fast, NHRA certified, government inspected, street legal car, that will do very well on the drag strip as well as on a road course, then it is going to take some serious money and a lot of time. It will also require professionals to do top quality, so it's not a hunk of crap when it is done.
For all of the naysayer, I don't care. I will have a 1 of a kind car that I like and that you never have to see or drive. I have done this for me, not you.
I never intended to build this car this way. The project threw some obstacles in my way and I adapted my plans. Had I just wanted to go out and buy a new fast car, I never would have spent the money required to buy a fully loaded Z06.
As it is, I love my Cobalt and I will be very happy to keep it forever. I have the advantage of age and maturity, so for me I don't require the next best thing.

What VicotryRedSS is doing is what people will be drooling over and magazines will be writing about, period. Im all over his conversion thread and can't wait to see the finished product, this is what hot rodding is about.
I remember years ago when I put Hotchkiss, Koni, and 17's on my 2nd gen Camaro and people were saying "what the hell?" "why dont you buy a car that handles?" Its called pro-touring and everyone and there uncle is doing it now.
Good Luck with the project, I can not wait to see it.

This is a present year hot rod that I am building. My car, my money, my way. I am not following or part of the pack.
