Thumbs up My write up-GMPP bumper to intake tube

Hey guys, i recently installed the GMPP "cai" and here were the results from my tests on a strip of road. I did to the same sign, wot every time.
Number 1:Before CAI-STOCK except for airbox"resonator removed"
-at the sign speed=45 MPH

Number 2:AFTER the gmpp "cai"
At the sign speed=49 MPH

(Today i decided to try and get a little more umph out of the ..cold air intake, by making a tube from the front bumper to push colder air into the intake(suggested by my brother, saw bltrax did it too)

Number 3: AFTER the bumper to gmpp intake tube
At the sign speed=52 mph

so basically, gmpp intake made it go up 5 mph, bumper to gmpp intake tube made it go up 3 mph.
Not bad for 10$$ eh?
lol, pics of my "custom" work up soon.

Tests were repeated atleast 5 times each so yep, they're accurate!
I didn't get to post 0-60 times as i'm sure that'd be more interesting but the only "speed" i had was on that strip of road, so i went by that!

Pics! (yes it's kind of rigged and i'll be drilling a hole to zip tie to where it's not on the outside soon lol)

It's HARDLY noticable and you'd HAVE to look for it to notice lol

nahhh, water won't get into it, if you get down into the stuff of it, you'll see why the vents form a kind of "filter" to where stuff only going at an angle like / that can go into the tube, except its a bit steeper, so basically only air can go into it, even if water does, it won't make it all the way up the tube because of the metal rings around it, gravity, and, the intake filter lol, you should go for it!

I woudn't worry about water getting in there, it would take a lot of defying gravity for water to get in there and the suction just isn't gonna be enough to pull that hard. if you are really worried in the winter, you could always move the pipe in the winter.

Did you have to cut behind your grill there? I have the LT with the black fog light grills installed but behind them it looks just like the LS with the solid molded color matching ribs.

I was thinking of cutting a hole in that behind my grill to intall a pipe. Where did you get the tube? and what size you get?

i got the tube at autozone and i BELIEVE it was either 2 1/2 or 3 inch tubing...it was called like max flow and was like 10 dollars, uzed a zip tie to fabricate and had a half a tube left over so if you lived close to me i'd give it to you haha, i didn't have to cut anything, i took out the headlight, and the headlight holder, and the tube fit "snugly" which was awesome, no clips or anything ijust shoved it up and it wasn't loose, it fit great,
I believe it was 3"tubing, and i had to ask "behind the counter" for it.
And for your lt with foglights, i have no idea, if you could get me some pics i could tell ya how to rig it!

well i already have an idea on how to rig it, i was gonna cut some of the slats and then put the piece righter there knowing it would still be hidden behind the fogs. you got some more pics?

I did the same thing, but I stretched mine almost all the way up to the center grill because I was worried about water. Now that everybody says that its not going to get up there unless you're in it, I'm going to cut mine shorter and fit it the same way as yours. Good job man, and + rep for the information.

thanks!, and i too thought about doing that, but really, the tube is very well protected in the spot i have it(i believe to the front is an open bottom, more water and what not) and the inserts on the front of an LT aren't slanted like the side ones!
Theres also a little hole type thing(looks like it was for a foglight) that made a perfect "mount" for my tube.
Will upload pics soon

Quick Question: Is the opening the same size on the stock air box. I already have the high flow filter and resonator gone. I think this would help a ton because I can really hear the air flowing through the inlet and this would cool it down a lot.

Where you had mentioned about placeing another filter at the end of the tube, I tried that, it restricted the air flow, and caused my engine to run way to hot, after removeing the filter, it ran just fine.
So just a heads up, leave it how it is

yeah it was a bear to get off. i think i can get a tube from autozone for free i have gift cards something like he posted something easy. but i dont have that front little grill piece anymore so id have to find a place to put the tube hmm. and zip tying it doesnt look to professional. but very good idea nontheless. i like it alot.

i would say that it would gain probly 3 to 5 more hp with mroe of a ram air effect.

hey yeah i did notice that this afternoon when i drove her. before when all that **** was on there it would run around 185f 195f. and now that i took all those parts off it seems to be getting more air already and it was running like 200f if i was stopped at a red light it would be like 203 then drop to like 183 i think maybe that sensor in the intake tube might be thinking that theres more air coming in so it has to get more fuel so therfor its running hotter maybe im guessing. or since maybe its more of ram air its thinking something also.

just my best guess to my noticing that aswell. good question.

ryan.

bumper tube

I was in a friend of mine's toyota echo with a similar setup (might not have had a filter) that died when we went through a puddle.
Of course the puddle was about 2.5 feet deep...

Wouldn't a set up like this make the GMPP cai intake tubing a waste? Why not just run it straight into the throttle body?

P.S. I went looking to do this and without that bumper insert you are screwed. My 06 doesn't have opening in the bumper so it's a no go. That's okay though. Just a heads up
