Well guys I knew this day would come Wheel hop finally owned my ass and im 95% sure that my rear motor mount or my tranny mount is 100% percent blown. If im crusin in any gear at 3500 rpms or above and hit the gas the motor rocks around in the engine bay and you can feel the tranny "clunk" from the sudden torque from applying the gas. Also if i try to take the car through the gears at WOT the engine/tranny clunks every shift even if i ease off the gas gently before the shift. And what finally proved to me one of the mounts is gone is now my exhaust is rattling closer to the front of the car so im thinkings one of the hangers broke since everything is rocking around so much.

Also i've taken My car in for a second gear grind that i have been getting it seems that when you pull the shifter into second gear if you just let up on the clutch with out pulling the shifter twards 4th gear when its in the second gear gate its a guarented grind. I've gotten use to it but if any one who doens't know about that drives my car they grind it minimum 5 times before i got to tell them what to do. I took the car to the dealer for this before and the service manager drove the car and grinded the gear too but he tells me it was nothing and that i just have to pull it into the gate better  . and for my final gear problem my 5th gear won't stay in the gate while crusin on the highway it just pops out back into neatural all on its on even more so on any type off turn or bank on the highway.

For right now I just want to know if the mounts and exhaust hanger will be covered under warrenty. And any advice about the tranny.

It all depends on your dealer. If they are nice and you know them well they might. They may also say its not due to your driving habits. All depends on how bad it looks.

yeah, just fabricate a story up. The call the dealership. They will most likely fix it under warrenty. They will just write it off as a defective motor mount. But if they get up there and look, and the clutch is all burnt to hell... they will make ya eat it.

Checked and saw that it was the front mount that went its moving all over the place hope they fix it. But also found out some other things but i put that in the thread i made in the performance section.

Once you get your mounts fixed you should invest in a torque dampener. Should help save the mounts. That is going to be one of my first mods. When ever I detect a hint of hope I always let of the gas also. Hopefully this is saving my mounts until the dampener?!

The trans needs to be fixed also. It shouldn't grind when changing gears unless you are letting out the clutch before you get it completely into the gate. Tell them they need to fix that.

If you can, get urethane motor mounts. That will help prevent it from happening again. I would also go with the torque dampners as an extra precaution.

Good luck with the warranty work. Be sure to let us know what is going on with boost problem as well.

I'm not sure. That's why I said if you can. I'm sure they will be out eventually. If not, do what the GM Performance division did for the Street Tuner Challenge. Make solid ones out of steel. :D

I've had the same exact problem with 2nd gear on mine since only days after I drove it off the lot. 4 trips in for service, the last trip to a different dealer, and all I've gotten so far is the "we can't duplicate the problem" excuse. Of course the last dealer drove it less than 2 miles. I've had 3 other friends of mine that have no problems "duplicating the problem" and I "duplicate the problem" at least a couple times each drive. But just like you said, it is more likely to do it when I downshift in a turn. I really haven't abused this car any because of this problem, I'm afraid to get on it hard and drop the tranny on the road.

I know a guy that had the same problem in his Alfa Romeo he used to race. I think he said it was a broken syncro.

Make the service manager ride with you and make it happen. That way they can't deny that it is happening.

They suggested I have a mechanic ride with me, but I figured they would just try and say it was the way I shift, just as Darksun280 stated that he was told by his to just pull it into the gate a little better. I miss the gearbox that was in my Mazda 323 right now, a $10k car that shifted much better. Neither dealership seems interested in doing any work to my car. The last one was supposed to change my oil and rotate my tires while it was already there but I was told that they either "forgot" or "possibly didn't have enough time".

I had this problem with my 1997 escort LX (may she rest im peace). It was the syncro it was toasted. It also needed all new gaskets. I cut my losses and traded it in for my cobalt.....But a new cobalt should not be doing this esspecialy if you know how to drive a stick!

yeah my second gear is being a real problem the shifter just pops out and grinds it won't stay in the gate unless i pull and hold it in the hard. But during the hot summer that used to rip off my shift knob like twice a day.

well took my car to th e dealer on monday and they called me yesterday at 4:00pm to come by and drive with one of the techs in the car because they could not recreate any of the problems i had listed. 2nd gear grind, 5th gear poping out at highway speeds, exhaust rattlings, motor hoping around in engine bay. Now as you know up untill I took my car in to the dealer i had been claiming that my car was hitting between 14-15 psi with the welfare airbox mod. The only problem was that my car was throwing 4 Dtc codes also. So before i took the car in on monday i put back on the air box cleard the codes and drove around for a little the car over boosted twice than the car could barely make it to 10 psi anymore. So i thought that my car went into some kinda limp mode. So I drove to the dealership with my friend following me and I tell him that my car isn't boosting right at all now. He tells me that black smoke was coming outta my car every time i hit the throttle and shifted and a good amount too. Also i could smell a hint of burning but no matter
Well skip to tuesday at 4:15 im driving around with one of the techs in the car and of freaking corse the car is driving fine or so it seems. no rattle no grind no nothing. I was about to flip out I couldn't belive my car was acting stupid for two weeks and now when i needed it to it wouldn't. Then i noticed my car wasn't even hitting 7 psi properly so the reason maybe i couldn't get the motor to shake like it had been doing is because the car isn't making any sudden increase in power when i hit the gas. Before with the welfare mod and running right i would hit the gas and shot up to 10psi, now i got to sit on the throttle just to get to 7psi. The grinding I couldn't make happen but whatever but even the exhaust rattle wasn't there, it didn't make since. Than it happened during the test drive a check engine light came on and I thought "Yes!" now they have to look at my car after they scan the code.
So im sitting at the desk now back at the dealership and the manager is saying how they wish i could have recreated the problem so they could have fixed it.(But i dont belive him) And that the car seems fine... the the tech shoots by and in passing he says yeah the cobalts exhast melted........WTF!?. So the manager follows him to the parts counter and they come back over to me and were like the cat melted on itself and took out part of the pipe before it, then the granaded parts flew into my muffler also shredding that. So I'm like how does something thats supposed to deal with heat its entire life melt from heat? and there just like "defective maybe?". Now there ordering me a new exhaust from the down pipe back but of course its on national back order. So I was going to get a rental but they said that it might take up to two weeks to get the part but i was like I don't want to keep driving a broken car around and make things worse. So guys what should i do?

Well first get the rental

Second: the motor mount, if broken, can probably be seen pretty easily, so just point it out to the techs.

Third: cat melted? Time for that 3inch catless exhaust maybe ::evilgrin::

Good luck man, call me sometime and let me know how everything works out.
