Well boys.... we've been wondering about this for some time now, and here's our answer.

YES the Injen CAI/SRI for the 2.2L will fit our SS 2.4's.

I found a used intake on e-bay for $130 and figured I'd give it a try. Everything works perfectly. It didn't come with the "heater hose" so I picked one up from the local hardware and fit it on. I don't know what experiences you 2.2 guys have had with these things but it makes the engine A LOT louder. No more quiet rumble beneath the hood, this thing's got a real voice now. As far as power increase, I have no idea on the exact number, but she's definately faster now... and cruises a lot easier too.

This probably means that all the other 2.2L intakes will fit our cars too, so if any of y'all like another brand, I say go for it!!

Hey...very nice to hear. I'm happy to know that because I've been wondering for awhile now. How was the install? And did any CEL show? Also, does that void that factory warranty?

Nice to know! I wonder if there are any dyno graphs for a 2.2L? To give an idea anyhow.

Might pick up some CAI in the spring.

Install was a piece of cake.... took maybe an hour... the stock intake comes off via two bolts, a star-bit screw, and one hose clamp... then you can pull the whole thing apart. No CEL has shown and I've put about 20 miles on her so far. As far as the extension goes for the Cold Air part I plan to do that in the summer after it's done being cold and wet here. This is the third vehicle I've installed an intake on so far, and I'm pleased to say that it has been the easiest by far.

The graphs on Injen's website http://www.injen.com/7024_mkt.html are showing a 7hp gain on the 2.2L, and I'm betting we'll get more than that b/c of our VVT making better use of the increased air flow.

It looks as if the SRI may rub a bit where the tube bend comes close to the front of the engine compartment b/c there's really nothing to hold the intake on besides the hose clamps and adapter. As I said before the intake I got was used and already had some wear at this point, so I wrapped it in black electrical tape for a quick fix... if this turns out to be a problem I'll find a better way to protect the intake tube at that time (see pics above).

An intake won't void the factory warranty, and they're 50 state legal too.

That looks dope! I took off that bug plastic engine cover thing 10 minutes after I bought that car. I thought it looked rediculous. lol. Now all i need to do is buy this Injen intake to get rid of the big intake plastic. haha!

Thanks for the quick reply. I should be ordering one tomorrow... I've never bought an aftermarket intake before. You said it sounds better huh? Do you mean under the hood, or the exhaust? Also, let me know if u notice any gains in hp or rpms.

It sounds better under the hood...or at least my AEM one did in my Accord. It kinda makes a sucking sound at idle. Then at throttle it's a little more than that. It's cool IMO.

Looks good man, I took my intake off yesterday too and made a custom intake. As well, I took all the sound deadening material off from under hood. My car is a real screamer now too.

looks good, but I dont know how the "tape fix" is going to work. When I installed my intake I made the same mistake, when you start your car the intake is going to slam against that beam pretty good, it hits pretty hard during gear shifts as well. On my 2.2 I just had to adjust the intake to leave plenty of room between that beam and the intake tube. Hopefully there is the same room to make the adjustment on the 2.4 because the vibration only got louder and more frequent on my car until I made the adjustment.

I adjusted the intake as best I could to keep it away from the front of the engine bay. I haven't noticed any problems so far but I'll definately keep an eye on it in the coming days.

Mike what kind of sound deadening material did you take off?

All the squishy foam on the unserside of your hood. It is just there to keep heat off the hood and sound out. I don't really need it, plus it helped my clearence issues.

Awesome !
Since we have those 2.2 intakes in stock now from Injen, we should list them on our 2.4 Cobalt page since youve verified they fit.

If anyone would like to get one of the Injen intakes, we are an authorized distributor on cobalt.net and have the intakes IN stock ! Delivery would only take 1-4 days depending on where your at so you could have them before the weekend.

Thanks again for sharing that great news !

Definetely looks better with the cover on! That is one ugly valve cover.

All I know is when I get my intake I'm gonna powder coat the valve cover and some other stuff and wrap some hoses and lines with blue or red depending on what kind of neon I wanna go with.

Just to update...

I've had the intake on for a week now. So far I've experienced no problems with it what so ever. Aside from the increased power and killer sound I've also noticed a drop in fuel mileage of about 1-2 MPG.... haven't determined if this is due to my more aggressive driving habits over the past week or if it's maybe caused by the engine feeding more fuel in to compensate for the increase in air flow... I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. As far as my experience goes, an intake typically increases fuel mileage, so this is most interesting to me. Any of you SS/SC or LT/LS guys noticed a fuel mileage change with the intake vs stock?

My mileage has dropped too, but I know this is due to my more aggressive driving to hear that sweet sweet intake noise.

so how much HP do yall think it kicks it up?

RaineMan

Injen was quoting 7hp. / 17lb. ft. on the 2.2, I expect similar but better gains for the 2.4 as our VVT allows us to make better use of the incoming airflow.

MikeSS

gains wont be noticed right away. I noticed it took, my car a few miles of driving for the computer to learn the new airflows.

Yes I saw that too but I promise you an air intake cannot pick up 17lbs-ft of torque--imposssible. Lookat the graph its 7bls-ft

RaineMan

a good point Avro.... I hadn't even actually looked at the graph... guess I prolly should have.... still 7hp/7lb ft is a good number.

So it would probably be around 10-12HP
