Xcellerated Concepts shaved fiberglass trunk

Well, I just made a discovery. As some of you know, I had talked about how I planned on getting the XC cf shaved trunk, largely b/c of how it shaves EVERYTHING (keyhole, emblems, spoiler and 3rd brake light). Well, I was messing around on their website and noticed it came in a fiberglass option......sweet! Even more to my liking as ill have a completely shaved trunk that will match my car. If I had gotten the cf trunk I woulda left it black simply b/c your paying that much for the cf so itd be criminal to paint it. But the fiberglass version is $120 cheaper, and all I gotta do really is paint it with the GM color matc spray paint and clearcoat it. So I'm probally gonna order it soon, so come next month ill have the smoothest of the smooth trunk.

BBBAHAHAHAHA, take the $120 you saved and get it prepped and painted proper, it probably will not come finished and ready to paint...

Yeah I know. Ironically enough, I just finished talking to a friend who just started college up in PA for bodywork. He took all the courses in autobody in high school and worked at a body shop part time through high school. He's gonna help me prep, paint and clearcoat it.

Ill be sure to post pics up when I get it. Ordering it next month. This months "SS budget" is being spent on repairing one 19", mounting a new tire on another 19", and I'm buying the Progress rear sway bar and front/rear Prothane tranny mount bushings. So obviously, the trunk is gonna have to wait. If you wanna check it out Xcellerated Concepts is listed in the vendor section and have a direct link to their website.

No that company only makes one for the cobalt. There may however be another company that makes them for the G5

I wanna order it soon, but I still gotta get my car inspected first. But before I can do that I gotta get rid of my CEL. But to do that I gotta get it tuned with HP Tuners (and do my injector swap). But before I can do that I wanna change out my 2.2 intake for a one of the new 2.4 intakes that were recently released so I can have a proper intake going into the whole tuning process. Like a domino effect of bad, lol.

Random question/statment...How're you gonna open your trunk if you unplug your battery and close the trunk? The only way is to use the key...but without a keyhole...no trunk opening.

Is there massive adjustments that will have to be made for the taillights to fit, and will it line up correctly?? I have heard and seen some pretty ugly aftermarket trunks.

i'd hate to disconnect the battery and accidentally close the trunk on one of those shaved trunks. i was saved by my keyhole when i was doing work on my cobalt and did that the other day

i know on my old cavalier there was a method to open the trunk from the inside by foldong down the rear seats and turning the lock mechanism. there may be on the cobalt as well, lemme check...

It's called the emergency trunk latch? Or does that just fold the seats down... I thought there was a white handle you could pull.

Yes, that emergency handle is so that anyone locked in the trunk can pull it and get out. Have you noticed that it even glows in the dark!! But around here, anyone stuffed into a trunk is usually dead anyway, oh well!
I don't know how to fold the seats from inside the car since the only latches I know of are in the trunk, but you could rig something up.
I would just hook a cable up to the emergency trunk release and put a ring on the end, then stuff it between the back seats so you could feel around in the gap and pull it out. I love the look of the shaved trunk.

just my 2 cents, your reality may differ

I remember you talking about this at the meet. I think you should go with the Carbon Fiber version but that is just me. I think it would look uber sweet. But best of luck to you.

The trunk button is electrical, so the keyhole in the trunk is really only there in case your battery goes dead. You don't even have to get into the trunk to charge the battery, but without a cable release like I talked about you couldn't get into the trunk if your batt was flat.
