Engine knock with new mods and stage 2 tune.

Just last week I added a couple of mods to my car and now I am seeing tons of engine knock WTF!! I had a stage II setup and the car was running really good, but last week I added a 2.9" pulley, gmpp honed exhaust manifold and random technology downpipe. As of 2 days ago I noticed on my interceptor gauge that I was getting knock at not just WOT but as well as when I was just easing on the accelerator. I have seen as high as 13.5 on the gauge but on average it's about 5.5 when acclelerating (not wot). Does anybody know why I would be getting that amount of knock from putting on my new mods it's starting to freak me out a bit. Thanks for any input ahead of time.

uhhhhhh, that sucks because those are mods I was thinking about adding--why would you be getting so much knock?

pshh I wish I could get my Interceptors to work; I've tried every power source I can

are we seeing knock or false knock?

Maybe you're running too much heat... what are your IATs?

not sure if it is false knock or not. I didn't check my IAT's at the time I will check that out when I get off of work.

1. What octane fuel do you use?
2. have you change your plugs when you switched to stage 2 / 2.9 pulley ?

as for your interceptor trying teeing off of your stock boost gauge wire, i've seen some people do it that way.

yup lots of 94 in calgary.

i think youll find that will make a big dent in your knock.

also, are you seeing it between shifts? or during the pull through the RPMs.

do you have a torque damper or mounts?

Forgot to ask that... it is very important to run colder plugs.

I'm using 93 octane gas and I just put in some ngk plugs like 3 weeks ago (bkr7's).

I have the ingalls. I'm seeing the knock both in between shifts and pulling through the rpm's.

the in between is almost garunteed phantom knock from your ingalls. I see it when i have mine on.

quite easy to diagnose....take it off and watch your gauge

but the mid rpm knock is likely being helped along by the cooler weather + your 2.9 resulting in increased boost.
Definately try out a few tanks of 94 octane, and think about picking up some 1 step colder NGKs, this will also help to reduce cylinder temps and thereby knock

so are you saying that I should go 2 steps colder? I already have the one step colder plugs in.

If you've got 1 step colder in... no need to go lower.

hhmmm I will try finding some 94 octane around and try that to see what happens. The other thing I will try is taking off the ingalls and see if i'm getting false knock from that. Thanks for your help so far guys!! If anyone else has any other input please add it to this thread, I will keep everyone updated as to what the issue is when I find it. Thanks again everyone.

I wonder how much phantom knock I'm seeing with my solid mounts LOL...

maybe I need to add an interceptor to my list.

nice--thanks for the tip! I'll also have to keep an eye out for higher-than-91 octane fuel

Anytime! All I did to install my interceptor was I took out the stock boost gauge and cut the wire after the clip (closest to guage). Then i soldered the interceptor power wire to the wire with the clip from the stock gauge and just plugged her in. Pretty easy but you end up not using the stock boost gauge.

We've got 93 octane here...

I wonder why all the differences in fuel grades nation-wide...

I've got dual interceptors in a gauge cluster pod in front of my steering wheel, so I'd need twice the power :/

that just means you run two different wires.
