View Full Version : Back from my meeting with GM in Detroit
CrateEngineDepot 09-20-2007, 10:26 AM Well I know it seems like for ever since we took our poll of "What do you want GM Performance to make for us?"
I spent Tuesday meeting with different engineers and the Performance team from GM talking about what we have experienced with our Cobalt’s, and what we would like to see in the future.
The day started early as we drove out to the GM Milford Proving Grounds. They showed me around the different departments that are responsible for the development of the car. We then walked out into a modern shop where there were engineers working on current vehicles working on refinements as well as working on future vehicle development.
I was able to talk to some of these engineers and discuss some of the modifications our members have made to their cars and some of the problems we have had.
Unfortunately I am unable to go into any detail about what I saw for the future as I was deprogrammed before I was able to leave. I will say that it was an honor to be able to spend a half day at the proving grounds and tests drive some of the vehicles they have there, the place is totally amazing. Once again I can’t tell you what I drove but I can say this: The future looks good!!!
And I am proud to be affiliated with GM.
The day was capped off with a meeting with the team leaders from GM Performance Division.
I put on a Power Point presentation that explained your wants and some of the problems we have with our cars.
All of these items were from the thread: “What do we want GM to make for us”.
We talked in depth about the top items that we wanted. Some of the items on our list already have been addressed and we will see some of the other items being fixed or addressed in the future.
Still other items will be looked at in more detail and they have agreed to contact me with any questions they have and I will be able to go to them with any future issues we have as well.
At this point I can not go into any details about future items because if I do I will lose the relationship I have with them.
I will post up any new items or fixes as they release them.

CrateEngineDepot 09-20-2007, 10:49 AM Awesome...can you like attach the slides so we can see what you presented to them?
For the most part what I showed them was an excel spread sheet with the results of our survey on what everyone wanted them to do for us. I also showed them some slides of what the competition is selling and how that compared to what we wanted. The meeting was very well received and I will keep in contact with them and let everyone know as they release information to me.

BlilBT 09-20-2007, 08:12 PM You told them we Charge for redesigning the reservoir Hook Up Right!;) :cssNET:
It was Nice to meet you & we Hope to see you guys again!:)
HunterKiller89 09-20-2007, 08:14 PM perhaps you can tell us this....will there be a way to tune the 2.2 in the future? such as a f/i kit that requires tuning? basically, are they planning ANYTHING that requires a reflash?
CrateEngineDepot 09-20-2007, 08:38 PM So are they actually going to make more stuff for the LSJ, or use this info to develop stuff for the LNF?
Yes we talked about some new products for the LSJ, and as they are approved and released I will share them with everyone. No sense in starting any rumors because maybe nothing will ever become of them so better to say nothing and be surprised than to say something is coming out and it never happens.
Any idea on a release date of any information?
No, don't expect anything overnight. Any product they create has to go though development, testing, validation, and certification.
:wtf: That post didnt tell us anything, thanks for nothin.
If the meeting didn't do anything else it brought us all closer together with GM and them knowing what the public wants. I think most of you will be very happy with what may become of it. Once again I will post any releases once they are available.

I can't say they noticed the reservoir hook up but I did see a picture of your car during the meeting up on the big screen and I wasn't the one who posted it. :)
It was nice meeting you as well and I look forward to seeing more of everyone at future Nopi shows.
perhaps you can tell us this....will there be a way to tune the 2.2 in the future? such as a f/i kit that requires tuning? basically, are they planning ANYTHING that requires a reflash?
Due to emissions I don't think you will any tunes from GM. We can only hope HP Tuners or others like them will be able to.
Although the meeting lasted a couple of hours there just wasn't enough time to cover everything that was on the list, we started with the top of the list and worked from that. I did leave them a copy of the complete list along with the comments that everyone added to their wishes.

In other words, you signed the NDA.
Free advice: never sign the NDA. It's better to not know, than to know and be unable to share it with anyone.

I will add this to the original post at the start of the thread. (sorry I should have done that from the start).
1gmfanatik 09-21-2007, 09:30 AM You go with your bad self...Always good to hear positive support such as this, especially for our cars.
BlueSS-supercharged 09-21-2007, 09:32 AM damn you hit all the right points
SwingBig14 09-21-2007, 09:38 AM Huh, I would have thought anti-wheel hop anything would have been at the top, and fuel delivery would have been higher up there. Still a good list though.
07 SS/SC 09-21-2007, 10:10 AM Sounds like you had a good time and some good things will come from GM in the near future! :twothumbs
Delta2.2 09-21-2007, 11:02 AM build your own like me
i was really just interested in the GM tune/reflash that they would offer. im going to build my own as well when tuneing comes out in the form of HPT or that new product. (forgot what its called)
05redline 10-27-2007, 11:30 PM Bump
Any updates on any of this stuff? Can you give any more info such a products proposed to be released or any release dates? Or is GM full of it and focusing on things like the HHR SS.:thumbsdow
HunterKiller89 10-28-2007, 03:55 AM SEMA approaches my man...something will be revealed indeed
Enzo_Guy 10-28-2007, 01:23 PM What would be a neat idea would be a conversion kit for those of us with automatics to switch to a manual transmission that would come with the needed parts and software.
CrateEngineDepot 10-30-2007, 08:02 AM They have called me looking for more input on what we discussed while I was there. (It all looks positive and at least they stay in contact keeping the communications going).
We have to be patient as it's not like flipping a switch. Once an idea gets approved it takes a long time until it hits the shelves for sale.
