Just buy a cat-less downpipe so when you have to go for emissions you can put the stock one back on.

Yes, with a stock engine gutting the cat probably wouldn't get you any gains anyway, they flow pretty well. Once you mod the engine more it would probably make a difference.

A lot of cats do that. It usually means you are running to rich.
