Better Solstice times
Better Solstice times
Car and Drivers latest test yeilds a 6.7 sec 0-60 run. Which should carry over to the 2.4L SS Cobalt. Of course RWD has better traction.
They call the Ecotec "mundane" and thrashy. I do agree it is a little slow to rev but in all other respects I find mine silky smooth.

That not from the drive by wire, thats just something thats inherent to all modern day EFI cars. My GTP is like that(although not as bad as it could be), two of my friends LS1 Z28's are like that(as Im sure all the others are too), my girlfriends Mazda 3 is like that, as basically all newer cars are like that. My 91 Camaro RS with the 305 TBI motor drops right down though. I dont know why engineers have made it like that, personally I find it annoying. If you wanna rev at someone for whatever reason, youve gotta wait an extra 2 seconds before you can put it back in drive. Not something you want to do if youre trying to initiate a race by revving
Since the 2.4 isn't over-powered I wouldn't say the Solstice's RWD give it better traction.
The reason the revs drop slower is due to programming not FBW throttle. The fuel tables stay up longer and the IAC is slower for some reason. My 1993 Z24 doesn't but my 2001 Z24 does and my LT1's didn't but my LS1's did. All are cable pulled throttles too.

The Ecotec "mundane" and thrashy because it's not a Honda or BMW engine.
If it was a Honda it would be spirited and quick to come on with power or some other random subjective BS.
Seriously magazines suck. I would say mundane and thrashy completly contradict each other.
Mundane:
Relating to, characteristic of, or concerned with commonplaces; ordinary.
Well Thrashy isn't a real word so I can't really post a definition of it.

They also said iys got to be at 5000 rpm for serious thrust. I disagree....3500 and mine takes off.
BTW--I feel your pain on the TBI 305--Iused to won one. Terrible engine but good highway gas mileage!
Eh, its not too bad until you hit 2nd gear, after that its all over with and you might as well have your grandmother push it lol
If I still have it come summer time I wanna throw a 100 shot at it and see what it does. I've done a best of 15.36@89 with it, and it runs consistent 15.5's right now. So Im thinking I could get it to mid 14's, right around where my GTP is right now. Cant beat the t-tops and the exhaust note though.
Flowmaster + V8 + t-tops + sunshine = ecstacy

yeah thats true. It just laid down and died halfway down the track. All low end. 2.2 sec 60fts.
My friend asked me if I let off the gas! It could beat another friends 91 Trans Am (305 TPI auto) to 50kmh and then it passed me like I was standing still.
Mine did 17.0@79mph in Calgary (16.2 sea-level) Then I got the trans rebuilt with a 4.3L stall, Corvette servo and shift ket and open element---did 16.7 (15.9)
Then I was in Ontario and raced it and got the 15.9
I had a 1991 RS 305 TBI auto and a 1991 Formula TBI 5-Speed. With 3.42's & Torsen LSD, HO AirBox w/K&N, Larger y-pipe & cat-back, Custom Hypertech PROM and UD Pullies my Formula ran a best time of 14.9
