What was that?

Wow! So i went down to my moms this weekend in Rehobeth Beach, and was on my way home. I was on 50 west on the bay bridge in the far right lane in a good amount of traffic and i see what looked like newspaper or something come up from the road that the car in front of me kicked up. There was no time to avoid it and all I hear is WAM! That **** was not soft.. I couldn't pull over there was no room. It scared the **** out of me, but the car was still riding good. I just imagined how bad the front lip was.. i get to a spot i could pull over after the bridge under a street lamp. It left a red mark a quarter inch wide from my left fog light to my headlight. the **** rubbed off, but damn that's the second thing i hit on the highway comming home from my moms in the past 3 months that i couldn't avoid! Does anyone else have the same luck??

hows this for luck.... a 8000 gallon propane tanker truck blew up and its axel flew like 150 ft in the air and landed in the middle of highway 16. when the axle landed it was still on fire... i feel bad for who ever it landed in front of. here is the link to the story. the **** was crazy. i was 10 blocks away when the thing blew up. My wife and I were just mesmerized by this huge mushroom cloud of flames coming towards us... the flames didnt get too close, but the pressure from the blast still shook the car

my best friend was goin about 80mph on the freeway one night comin home in the middle lane (5 lane fwy) and there was a lone traffic cone in the road. he couldnt avoid it, so he tried centering his car on it so it would go right between the tires. the result? broken bumper and AC condenser, $1700 in damage

Something similar happened to me. Was coming home from Target, driving through like normal, when about a block and a half in front of me this 3-story building just literally exploded. I know what you mean about the pressure too, it felt like a bomb went off and it jarred the car pretty good. Plus I was close enough that all this debris and crap and chemicals came down on my car (was in my Cavalier, didn't have the Cobalt yet). Fire was so intense it shot 100'+ in the air. Craziest thing I've ever seen. I guess what caused it was there were 2 buildings right together, one was vacant, the other was a laundromat. The laundromat used natural gas for the dryers and they think what was happening was there was a leak, and the vacant building next door had become filled with natural gas, well they also didn't clean out the venting enough so a lint fire got started, they couldn't get it out so they evacuated, the fire spread to the vacant building and as soon as it hit the pocket of natural gas - BOOM!

That's exactly why most auto-xers at some point or another get some skid plating for underneath the car. I know I've nailed some cones pretty good, but luckily so far no major damage to the car.

ppl should be arrested for leaving **** like that on the road...After i hit what ever it was, a half mile down the bridge a pickup was stopped with it's flashers on so i pulled up behind him thinking this stuff fell from his truck bed. Nope, he hit whatever it was also and blew his tire. I swear though i was going to check my car right there and if it was damaged i would have gotten his insurance info and gave him a little piece of my mind! **** on the road like that only causes more problems and accidents...

I'm luck my condensor is still unscaved after this!
