Should I trade my ls for an ss/sc?

i went down to chevy to look at this 06 ss/sc g85 and it's going for 17.3k. it's yellow and stock, but has tint and either exhaust or just a tip. it only has 6500 miles on it and looks clean.

kbb says my ls is worth 8.5k. i owe about 7.5k on it. i only make about 8 bucks an hour and 40/hours a week(going to make a little more in the near future). would it be worth it to do that trade? i want an ss/sc but i don't know if i should just wait one year untill i'm 19. i don't have any bills exept my car(maybe insurance if i get an ss on my parents policy).

should i just wait or go for it? i can't make up my mind

Wait, what you are not realizing is that not only would you have negative equity at 18...but the cost to maintain a SS/SC is higher than that of any of the other cobalts.

Relax, you are 18 and have a long life to live, patience will yield some awesome results in life

8$ an hour at 18 isn't where you wanna be at especially with a car you're gonna be paying for until you're 24 if you trade. You want to keep financial burdens low until you establish yourself. hell im just about 20 now and im making over 60k a year and I still opted for an LT. Make you base model faster/ personalize when you have the money, don't force yourself to blow all you money just to make the payments.

im 19 making 8 an hour at uhaul so from my mistake, please learn.

im switching to possibly auto glass or maybe data/audio/video wiring. Both hard labor jobs but still GREAT pay.

I traded in my 06 ls for the 07 ss/sc and im paying 500 a month because i owed a bit on my LS.

take it easy and be patient. the ss/sc will always be there and either way, there will be better cars out there in the future.

and and you can afford the ss/sc with 8 an hour

I think you should wait...best things come to those who wait...lol Maybe you can be one of the 1st to get a cobalt ss/tc if it ever comes out.

you can afford it on 8 bux an hour.....but just remember that payment will be with you for the next few years, so forget about moving outta your parents house unless you get a good raise lol.

u can do it if they give u 8.5k cause u would have that extra grand to put towards da ss/sc...if u dont put anything else on..i saw ur payments would be in the 300 range and dats not including the insurance and ur 18 yrs old ur insurance will be almost the same u pay for u r car payment...i dont see any neq equity if they gave u 8.5 k for u car..but ur probably gonna be looking at 5-600/month for both ur car/insurance...with 8/hr 40 week....and after taxes..your not gonna have enough for both of em...maybe parents can pay for ur insurance...i started paying for my own insurance at ur age...but good luck man that would be a nice upgrade...and yellow is a noce choice if u get it that would be a steal 6,500miles g85 for only 17.3...a dealer trying to sell me one 05 ss/sc 48,ooo miles non g85 for 15 flat was da lowest they go...i alreayd had neq equity there do forget that,,,but good luck wit it

damn. i cannot understand how all of your parents are allowing you guys to have these cars that take your entire paycheck just to pay the note on it.

As much as i wish you the best in getting something you want...
I see nothing but bad things coming from buying something WAY above your means.
and thats not even mentioning the general quality of teenage drivers in ss/scs

i had my 2.2 for 2 years, got rid of the negative equity, and traded for a ss/sc. my payments are the same as they were on the 2.2 now. it's a big difference when it comes to the car, but if i'm going to be paying 500 or more for a car you better believe it's not going to be a cobalt.

You think my parents would let me do this? that is one of the main things holding me back(i know it's for the better too).
I got to save up and pay off a few more small bills first. i just asked my boss for a raise that i deserved 4 months ago when i got a promotion and he said yeah and i'll be getting back pay too. so maybe 9somthing an hour.

I'll just save and be a pizza deliver guy as my second job and see how things are in the winter.
i figured things out, right now if i bought that ss/sc, i would only be left w/ $450 dollars a month to use on anything i want gas, mods, saving, food, and so forth.
then i have college

yea, so it's not smart bro. not at all. so you have about 100 a week or so to play with. take out gas, that's anywhere from 30-50 dollars considering you have to use premium. at best, you'll have about 70/week left over. then expect your insurance to go up as well. there goes that 70, and probably then some.

bro, trust me, it's not worth it to **** up your credit. that stays with you for a very long time. yea, you want a ss/sc now. what if you end up not being able to afford it, once you realize how much insurance and other things that come up are? then when you're 25 and try to buy a house and can't get approved, then what? and if you do get approved you're getting a rediculous rate.

the people here that are chiming in are all a little older. we know what it's like to be young and want things. we also now, years later, understand that you can't just get things that you're not ready for. a car and it's associated cost should NOT be 95% of your monthly income. that's just poor planning.

do yourself a big favor and hold off. trust me, you will be grateful one day that you did.

if you do trade... you'll probably be able to pay for it. But say goodbye to having a life. When you have the money you won't have the time and when you have the time you won't have the money. You'll basically be dedicating your life for the next few years just to paying off your car.

Smart choice not going for it. There are better things in life than a nice car

I would go down there, and give them your info, tell them your trade, etc. and have them give you a quote on what your payments would be for how long. Find out what insurance will be. Then decide whether its too much or not.

On the other hand, since you said your looking for a better job, you could wait til you get that better job, and have had it for 6 months (by then you'll be 19, or close). And then you should be able to get an ss/sc for even cheaper than $17k, and have paid more on your LS, so your trade in will amount to more.

And who knows...by that time the legendary "turbo balt' might be out and you can get that instead! lol

that is a smart choice on your part, i know that if it was me i would probably be stupid and just get it. i dont want anyone to call me emo but i just cant stand my car, it is so depressing. but then again you dont want to be strapped for money for the next four years. i am 18 and a full time student and it is hard for me to find work and pay for my shitty base model, i wouldnt be able to pay for an ss/sc. once you start college everything will change and you will realize how scarce money can be.
