Hypothetical LNF Cobalt SS Vs. SRT4 Grudge Match

Ahh the grudge match we've all been waiting for but it may not be as close as we think.

Curb Weights :

Cobalt SS : 2991
SRT4 : 3156

Advantage SS - All depends if the LNF weighs a lot more/less then the 2L Supercharged engine

Engine :

2L DI Turbo - 260hp
2.4L Turbo - 315hp - Dyno Confirmed

Advantage SRT4

Power to weight Ratio :

SS - 2991 / 260 = 11.50
SRT4 - 3156 / 315 = 10.01

Advantage SRT4

Gearing :

SRT4 - 6Spd Manual With a 4.12 final drive ratio
SS - I'm hoping for a 6spd manual but we'll probably get a POS 5spd manual with a 4.05 final drive ratio

Advantage SRT4

Looks are subjective and don't belong in this match. I LOVE my IRL and would love an LNF version of it but unless GM gives the LNF SS 300hp it's seriously going to be toast.

Car and Driver (recently) tested the Caliber STR4.... 14.4 @ 103 I think.

-Rich

Edit

Edmunds did full road test: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=122859

Dyno: 281 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque at the wheels
Track: 60 in 6.2 seconds and 14.6 seconds at 100 mph

Dyno graph on the site.

This is the first of many of these threads Ill see. Either way, the ss could be slower and I would still get it, because I love how it looks. Although I like the gauges on the srt-4 a lot. Ours are kind of borring : /

I think it looks cool, but I think the cobalt looks better. I would like to have one . I am just really not a dodge person, especially after my lame 98 neon. Although its nothing like an srt. It still drove me away from the company lol.

i've read several reviews about the new srt 4, and all called it a mid 14 second car. and paper racing ftl.

Yeah I think the interior is pretty sharp... but a couple of magazines who have done full road tests are pulling nothing better than 14.4... I guess we'll wait and see when they are on street what people are running...

Heres something to spin your rumor mill... I read on one of the sites that dodge had to drop the original plans of 300hp to 280hp because the engine was having issues w/ that much hp....

If thats true then that SUCKS for the tuner market... but dodge couldn't be THAT dump could they!?!

It's putting 281 to the wheels. 281whp is 315 crank horsepower so it's not having problems with the boost. JUst a BS rumor.

well yes ... yes they can be that dumb however unlikely I was trying to figure out why they listed the new srt4 as a 14 second car and the only thing anyone could come up with was aerodynamics cus the curb weight is only about 150 more than a cobalt with a tank of gas.

Extensive torque management in 1st and 2nd gears. That's why it's only in the 14's.

i have seen cars with tc systems before and normally they allow the car to achieve must faster times ... if this was true that would mean that without the tcs the car would possibly be even slower.

I was reading that dodge thinks that the TM in 1st and 2nd is a much better alternative to an LSD which i think is BS

I'm using 12% loss for FWD cars without an LSD. 15% with.
RWD without an LSD = 12%
With = 15%

uh hold on dodge is claiming low 6 second 0-60 which is hypothetically slower then a stock ss/sc (5.7) so hypothetically my stage 2 ss is a good race which beats stock 05 dodges which are hypothetically faster then the new srt-4 which hypotheticaly speeking makes a 260 hp cobalt faster ... hypotheticaly speaking of course .... and also considering that 260 hp is to the wheels

that's... alotta hypotheticals...

The new calibur looks ugly as sin IMO. It looks more like it belongs off-road with big tires than it does with lo-pros and a turbocharger...

hypothetically...it doesnt surpirse me that dodge is making a car faster then chevys preformance divison, dont get me wrong, ive never ever been a fan of dodge and love my cobalt, but the SRT division really holds they're own when it comes to horsepower, every SRT product i am in love with, not nessicarly for their looks but for their preformance.

when i saw a SRT-4 at the track do 11.6..thats what sold me on the srt divison, that and the SRT-8 CHARGER is badass and the JEEP CHERROKE (SP)

also, im my honest opinion, they should have claimed the SRT-4 badge to the DODGE AVENGER because the AVENGER comes in AWD and i think a AWD SRT-4 would dominate the tuner market, also the AVENGER is better looking then the CAILBER
