Metal shavings coming out of exhaust?

Since my car is black, i've noticed that there are small metal shavings or somethin... almost looks like tiny glitter... all over the back side of my car. It's coming out of the exhaust.. whatever it is. Everytime I wash it, it's there again right after I drive it again. I know it's comin out of the exhaust because you can see it inside the exhaust tip. Anyone have any idea what that could be? It dont sound good whatever it is. I'll go ahead and list my mods because someone will ask i feel sure. Performance mods are: AEM CAI. Borla Cat-back exhaust. However, I dont feel like either of these caused the problem because it did it before I changed either of t hem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could it be your CAT? I know the cat can produce a glitter like substance when it starts getting clogged.

that's pretty much what it looks like... a shitload of tiny pieces of glitter. I guess I could always change the downpipe and cat and see what happened

Could be peices of brake pad.
Are they stuck to the paint or can you just wipe the stuff off ?

it's not the brake pads... I can start it up after washing it and let it sit there and run for a few minutes and just rev it a few times and u can see the stuff again.. I guess it's the cat. I'll just save up and replace that and see what happens... thanks everyone

Take it in and get it replaced under warranty.

if I hadn't cut my stock exhaust i'd almost be tempted to put it back on long enough to get this fixed... but i'm not weldin it back together... not worth it... i'll just save up and by a new dp/cat soon... needs to be done anyway

i would still try and get it replaced under warrenty, they have to prob that your intake, exhaust did it. And if you ask them the exact reason why they wont replace it they prob wont be able to come up with an answer as to how exactly your intake and exhaust cause ur cat to break. Worth trying...

they have to replace it. it is the stock cat it is FEDERALLY covered for 50,000 miles or some crazy high amount of miles. they have to repair it due to it has to do with emissions

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/consumer/warr95fs.txt

"B. DESIGN AND DEFECT WARRANTY

The Design and Defect Warranty covers repair of emission related
parts which become defective during the warranty period. The Design
and Defect warranty for model year 1995 and newer light-duty cars and
trucks is outlined below:

Design and Defect Warranty Coverage for 1995 and newer light-duty
vehicles:

* Emission control and emission related parts are covered for the
first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle use; and

* Specified major emission control components are covered for the
first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use.

According to federal law, an emission control or emission related
part, or a specified major emission control component, that fails
because of a defect in materials or workmanship, must be repaired or
replaced by the vehicle manufacturer free of charge as long as the
vehicle has not exceeded the warranty time or mileage limitations for
the failed part.
"
"Yes. It does not matter if you bought your vehicle new or used
from a dealer or anyone else. As long as the vehicle has not exceeded
the warranty time or mileage limitations, these warranties apply.
"

the catalyic convertor is a specified major emission control component

so basically... since I replaced exhaust components after the cat instead of before the cat... it would still be considered stock and they have to replace it... sweet..... +rep for silentd that could prove to be useful information to have when I go in there
