It is in the driver side fender in front of the tire. I've not yet checked mine but I imagine you turn(or remove) the wheel and pull back the splash guard, exposing the airbox.

it's fairly simple. depending on how you drive, you should change it about once a year.

lift the car on the driver side, take off the driver side wheel. take off the bolts holding the fender liner on, (not hard but there's a bunch so it gets tedious). don't take them all off, just enough so you can bend the liner back. you'll see the airbox. the filter is inside.

if you're going to get a new filter, may as well get a better one that's reusable like a K&N

I took off the wheel and the liner and I saw the box. Ppl say u only need to change it every 50,000 miles, is there any guidelines or anything? And where can I order the K&N air filter?

Thanks ~

if you're looking for a used one, i'll sell it cheap. cover shipping pretty much and it's yours. i got it used myself, so not sure how many miles are on it, but it's in good shape. they only cost about 40 new, so i would go that route unless you're absolutely strapped for cash.

you can get one from turbo tech, www.turbotechracing.com

50,000 miles no, 15,000 miles yes.

Depending on how much dust and pollen is in your area, might do it before 15K miles...

you don't need an intake to replace the filter. you can put a new one in the stock airbox.

I played with a few different filters in my car and I never had to remove the wheel.

Just jack up the left front and remove the bottom screws.

By the way make sure you check on your K&N often the OE replacement style/drop-in will fit snug at first but will expand and become loose. I had mine in for a few thousand miles and when I took the aibox lid off the filter just fell out.

If I just unscrew the bottom, I know the whole plastic thing is not gona come off, entirely, but if I can get in there and work, it should save some time and work, I guess I'll give a shot this weekend...

BTW, how often do u check ur K&N? every yr?

it's worth the extra few minutes to take the tire off. how long does it take to unscrew 5 lugs, maybe aminute or 2?

Not sure how much room is in there, but have ya'll looked into changin it just by removing the headlight and headlight mounting bracket??

I know that you have to remove the tire and all to put a CAI in, but to change that filter, all you have to do is remove the 2 screws for the headlight, slide that out, then 4 screws for the headlight mounting bracket, and after removing that, you filter is RIGHT THERE...

I don't think u can get the filter out from top. and FYI, remove the headlight is another headache, trust me...

Well, just got my K&N installed, definetely noticed a difference, got the whip ...

The air box screws are on the bottom side. Need to take out a ton of screwsfrom the splash guard to get to it. It makes it easy if you take out the screws going up the wheel well too. Just turn the wheel one way to get to some then turn it back the other way to get at the others.

Ive got an odd issue. None of the filters I get will fit right. They slide in fine, but the air box bottom will not go on to hold it in place because that inch deep circular depression on the filter bottom is not on the new one. I have tried multiple brands. They all have flat bottoms. Are you supposed to force it an inch into the foam?

Go to any auto parts dealer and ask them for an air filter for cobalt ss/sc, they probably have different kinds, K&N has one million mile life warranty on it ~

I get the one for the 06 cobalt 2.0L.. wtf else would there be?

Ive tried STP SA9345 and just got a FRAM CA9345. Both are flat bottom. I am able to press into the foam a bit on the fram. So I may try.

I hope to get an intake in the future so I'd rather not go K&N if it's getting replaced.
