Stupid Interior Trim Pieces

I am just on a rant about GM's stupid design for the Interior peices.... I don't like how the dash trim peices are held in with a Metal spiked clip that digs into plastic prong type of things on the rear of the trim peice.. I mean that's so stupid.. I have to run some wires for my TOMTOM GPS and the peice has been taken off before but now there is no plastic left on the prong type of the thing now it's can't really clip tight to the metal clip.. Like couldn't they have a better method of having these pieces secure to the dash....

Anyone else have this problem??

Also the paint is a problem on them too.. It's peels off.. GM wouldn't do anything about it stupid .... Like even on my radio controls some of the bottoms are like having the paint wear down.. Like whats the deal with this..

I have issues with my trim to. Silver is rubbing off on the door handle trim. Cheap ****. There are cars that are cheaper new and have less quality issues

Yeah, I used fingernail polish remover and just took the rest of the paint off the door handles.

Does the black plastic underneath it match the rest of the plastic?

It looks like the HVAC bezel if you have the black.

I personally ripped thru the plastic with the metal clips in several areas on the trim. To fix it I simply put some jb weld on it to hold the metal clips and they are rock solid now and have not came off again lol

Cool.. I will keep that in mind and try it out.. I called the dealer and it's $60 for that part (canadian funds).. I looked at GMpartsdirect and they have the part for $15us but they don't ship to Canada.. So I am not wanting to spend $60 if they will not warrenty this... So JB Weld is a good choice.

On my console & everything.

I took my car to a dealership & they replaced everything!
BUT, now one of my vent pieces is broke.
I'm going to throw a fit!!!

when you take them off, you're probably just pulling them out. what i did was take a very small flathead screwdriver and push the clips up, which relesased the grip. then you don't have to worry about them pulling off the plastic.

The silver on the door trim chipped real bad, and I was getting really frustrated with it. I took both of them off, removed the silver with varisol, sanded them lightly & spray painted them with 3 coats of silver again. It looks exactly like the stock silver, except it doesn't chip off.

I also have more trouble with these trim pieces than any other car I have ever worked on... after installing an alarm and some audio work (and just playing around), I've messed up pretty much every panel/trim in this car...

I ripped one in half trying to take it off, the passenger lower door trim... SUCKS.

*EDIT*

Yeah, one of my vents is broken too. Also, my driver window-roller knob fell off

Ill agree to the fact that the painting sucks. most of the cobalts we have in for work somewhere along the lines the paint chipping deal was brought up

and the lips for the trim pieces? well, no offense but you just must not be doing it right. I have yet to break a trim tab and ive done a ton of interior work on cobalts. just be gentle with it.
