2003 evo 8 in edmonton

Thats right, now i know there is 2 in calgary, white and silver, i know both owners, and i also know the new owner of the 2003 evo that he bought last week from quebec. He spent months looking and waiting to get his hands on one, and as envious as i am i am also happy for him.

the car is silver, so when you see it, dont be fooled, it is an evo through and through. Im going to be vauge on the details, because of its rarity, but thought everyone might like to know and could look out for it .

ill post a pic, its with lukas's wrx taken last week.

***side note, for american viewers, evos are NOT legal for sale in canada, and the known number of evos that were sold before it was made illegal in sept 2003 is 12. so its very rare.

if i remember evos failed the slow frontal crash rating test
because they took to much damage at a 7km/h front crash test.

they are supposedly passing the evo 10. which will be the first legal evo in canada.

we also dont have GTOs either

the FMIC on the evo apparently got roasted in the 7km/h frontal crash test.
so they didnt allow it in.

true, but to get a real one in Canada is rare/sweet. I met a guy at a timmies once, he had a real evo, but california plates He said you need the right "connections" to bring the car in.

Sorry to thread jack...

Lowbalt's hood vs Anomalous's hood. Thats my debate for the winter. Either of U guys care to PM me about how good u feel it keeps the car cool over stock?

once again, sorry for the thread jack.

its a 90% visual mod
8% weight reduction mod
2% cooling mod.

on hot days at the track you can see the heat haze pouring out of the vent. so it helps some.

but realise its not going to do alot.

the weight reduction from a 47lb stock hood...to about 17lb CF hood makes more difference.

Firestorm has the same hood as lowbalt, except he partially painted his, so i have seen both up close and personal.
both hoods are nice. I just prefered the style of mine, and the fact that it comes with a fiberglass addition that bolts underneath to shed water during rain, that can be taken off for track days or fine weather.

Just a quick follow up question... I've heard horror storries about CF hoods in winter... yet I see a Lancer by my house that has his on all year round... do they crack, break easy? I was looking at getting one for next spring but figured I'd ask here since it seemed appropriate...

this car was brought into canada prior to september 24th 2003 when it was made illegal. It had been registered prior as well making it legal regardless of any regulations that came into place afterwards.

he has an alberta plate, alberta insurance, and a canadian warrenty on the evo. and yes, its sick, as for the track, i doubt it, i wouldnt, its his babe.

about a year ago i was talking to one of the GM exec's and was talking to him about the Pontiac GTO and he said that gm was gonna be redesigning the GTO and releasing it in canada.

now he could have just been speculating but still it would nice to see the GTO back in canada.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's the Pontiac G8, the G8 and GTO are both based off of Holden products.

As for why the GTO can't come into Canada, same reason as the Evo, frontal crash failure. But that's a pretty good idea, register and plate the car in Washington state haha.

yeah the G8 is basically the GTOs sedan brother. so thats probably what he was reffering to.

Dont know that we will ever see the goat up here in holden monaro trim....but if we get the G8 as a next best thing....im not gonna complain.

thats gonna be one sweet ass family size car.

ya i know they were talking about completely redesigning the GTO to look more muscly as the GTO thats in the states basically looks like a grand prix (his words not mine). but ya he could have been referring to the G8. i guess only time will tell.

i remember how we got on that topic i was telling him that it was a shame that GM discontinued the trans am and thats when he told me about the GTO

There isnt too many evos or Sti's around here. Then again theres only like three or four cobalt SS/SC's around here also. There is more mustangs, camaros, and trucks around here more than anything.
