So a friend of mine down here in cinci (bradsi on these forums) is betting me 200 dollars that i can't go through the whole winter season with the stock pirelli on my 07 cobalt ss/sc, so we are about to find out! The bet is i can't get into a wreck caused by me, or get stuck somewhere and have to get towed out. Anyone think i can make it?? Thanks for all the good lucks to come!!!!!

A wreck being me hitting anything that i shouldn't haha? telephone pole, hitting the curb, etc.

Im more worried you'll be getting stuck my friend. And I also said it depends on what kinda of winter we have here. And yah BG has 2 subs in the trunk.

Goodluck to you, winner doesn't have to pay food for Christmas shopping time and gets $200. :nono:

haha hell yeah if it ices over your fucked , i was driving from el paso to austin at 3 in the morning and there was a road block because someone got into a bad accident because of black ice well they let us go by and there was about a 1/4 mile of black ice and right when i hit it i was going 25 i started sliding and i didnt really lose control but i got it down to like 10 MPH and just cruised through it

Moral of the story , if it ices over your fucked unless you drive under 15 MPH

why would you risk it? I just made the argument for someone today that those tires are max performance summer rated tires, not designed for winter driving.

$200 if you make it for the winter, or if you crash you owe him $200 and then you have to repair your balt.... sounds like a dumb bet to me

If your a decent driver you should have no problems. I ran my stockers all winter last year. The only real problem you may have is your driveway. Dont even bother trying to move it if you guys get an ice storm. As light as the car is, tread pattern, and hard tires, you have to be a good driver. The cobalt likes to float in snow. I had to drive to work one morning in 6 inches of snow. Follow the tracks, and when your car starts to pull when you hit the unpacked snow, just go with the flow. Dont over steer. No major corrections and youll be fine. I did get some curb rash on my tires though. Of all places, in line at a touchless carwash. They didnt plow their drive, and when i was trying to get closer to the teller thing my ride slide off the hardpacked snow and slide down onto the curb. Nothing like know no matter what you do your gonna rash your wheels getting outa that spot.

I think the Lops are worse in the winter then the P-zeros though.

well i know im only 18, but still, i actually know what snow is and can do, like posted before i practically live snow, my father and my uncles all have snow plows and go every winter, and when i was a kid, no joke i built little snow plows for my remote control trucks, but i can have my friend david who was with me that night and also matt tell u how i was driving, but yes of course i drove slow and used the transmission to my advantage, my dads trucks have engine brakes so i just apply them and they slow down by themselves

yeah i know the tires suck and all, i did slide here and there, but if u really needed to drive you can, just gotta use the low gears down hills to slow u down, tap the brake, and to speed up dont hit it so hard gently speed up

I drove on my Stock Conti's last year...had no issues...it was fun taking my car into empty parking lots and power sliding it...

Now I have 3 Toyo Proxes 4(UHP All Season) and 1 Bridgestone S03(Summer tire). I got the Proxes used but the tread is still good, I put a hole in the 4th one mounting it and needed a tire to put on and thats all I could get my hands on...

When I get them money I'll probably buy 2 Brand new Proxes 4's

of course you can get around.
everyone knows that.

but your not getting around safely, or in control.
its the fact that your risking yours and how many countless lives because your to cheap to buy the correct safty equipment for your car.

Tell me something.....do you think you would enjoy jailtime?
what do you think is going to happen if you are cruising along and a kid jumps out and you kill him, because you have NO stopping power on those tires
and in the investigation they find that you have HIGH PERFORMANCE SUMMER ONLY tires on your sporty little car, driving around on ice and snow.

Time to wake up kiddies.

its not "should be okay" to risk the lives of everyone around you sharing the roads with you.

you missed the point entirely. not surprisingly considering the topic of this thread.

the point is, if its an accident, and they saw your tire marks where you slammed brakes as hard as you could, and were paying attention....its gonna be ALOT different story, to if you hit him in the winter, with your stock SUMMER ONLY tires on...because all you did is slide

and second....
just because people are stupid enough to street race, does not justify your stupidity in ignoring the fact that your tires are unsafe during winter.

if you bought this car and didnt take notice that the tires are summer only, and you live in a winter climate.....thats your own fault.

if you dont have the money to buy the correct safe tires for your car, you should have bought a cheaper car.

cars arent just about the note to the finance company.

I drove through winter last year with a set of completely wasted Falken Ziex tires.

You just gotta know how to drive, it's not so difficult.

Spend a couple weeks up in rural NY, and learn how to drive a car in the snow.

A typical day will leave enough snow so that I'm literally plowing the road with my front bumper, not the greatest sensation, but, hey, what the fuck are ya gonna do?

As other have said. stupid fucking idea. You are going to kill someone or get killed. I was stuck on stock tires all last winter and it sucked. Your only advantage is being in ohio rather than all these hills here. It isn't worth $200. I got stuck on a hill at 40 and had to hit 60 on the snow just to get up. I barely had control. I was fish tailing at every light. I was sliding backward down hills. Skill only saves your ass from death when those things happen. It sure as hell isn't going to keep it from losing control and likely hurting others.

Know how that is. Last year it took me 2 hours to get home from school which usually is a 25min drive because people can't drive. I was on my bald falkens starting in 3rd sometimes 4th just so I could get up a hill. Suvs and rwd cars were all spinning going nowhere and the usual crowd who gets stuck and thinks flooring it will work which then put them in oncoming traffic. Traffic was backed up for miles.

Tires make a world of difference

With RE050a Pole Positions, my car wouldnt even MOVE in anything more than a dusting of snow.

With Blizzak REVO1s, I tore through up to a foot of fresh powder!

i tried a winter up here, mind you i bought the car just b4 winter and thuoght the new summers would get me thru. It didn't work as well as planned. i got stuck in my driveway, trying to pull into it, almost everyday. among other places that were rare. uphill and ice, ur fucked lol. and any large snowfalls ull be fucked and prolly get stuck. maybe not a tow out, but def a push out.

1. Firestone tires blow.
2. You will be fine.
3. Share some gps?

I drove a mustang all winter in Utah. I spun out a whole lot, but no crashes, just plain ol fun. You will be more then fine.

That thing is still running! His sister is driving it now. Currently rusting like a mofo. It has been through hell and back and still hangs in. Once they get rid of it I might buy it.

I drove 2 winters on the stock pirelli tires...the second winter was really bad cuz the tires had almost no tread on them.

If I remember correctly the transmission in it was replaced before he bought it. So that should last a little awhile longer. It was a solid car.

I went through two winters on the Pirelli Rosso tires just fine. I barely got stuck once trying to get up my parents' driveway and that was it. Didn't slide or anything.

Good luck man. Two winters ago when I bought my car I couldn't back out of a parkig spot with 4 inches on the ground. Now I have winterforces and made it through last years snow storms without a problem.

I've seen one or two dummies around here driving on the stockers in the winter. My guess is they made it through since I have seen the cars around town following winter but that must be a nitemare, the tires turn into god damned hockey pucks!
