Cobalt SS S/C Winter drivers?

I liv ein Newfoundland. It snows here, like all other provinces in Canada as well as most northern states. I hav ebeen searching for two weeks to get a set of winter wheels and tires to use during the next 5 months. GM Canada has told me to go buy a set of 18" tires for my factory wheels at $400.00 each plus install and balance and tax.

I fought with them wondering why they didnt just manufacture a steel wheel for us to use. I ended up buying an American racing 17" wheel and tires for 1100.00 taxes in. Crazy to have to buy what I have but...the car will look sweet when it isnt so sweet outside.

Does anyone else on here have to drive in the winter...and what option have you used?!?!?!?!

We'll see how these tires I purchased work. They are all seasons from Pirelli europe.

I got 16" F1 wheels and micheline x-ice from tire rack for about $750us mount balanced and shipped. It was cheaper than buying 4 18" snows.

Yea I am still in denial thinking that the all season that came with my car will be good enough. I would really hate to spend 1 grand on winter tires. Yet if I do I will most likely be getting 16 inch rims, with some michelin x ice tires. I had no idea that the dealership will do this for me?? Is this true ???

I was going to go with a set of 16's with winter tires up here in Michigan, but then for a just about an extra $300, I can get a winter beater. Right now it's looking like 91 Grand Am. Should also lower my insurance since I will be paying storage coverage on the SS.

The crazy chev dealers here didn't even believe me on the phone when they asked what size tires are you using...I said 18's....they said what? they had guessed earlier that they were 14's or 15's. I told them to reidentify themselves with the SS......I mean really..the dealership wasn't sure?!?!?! Newfoundland for ya! They really were goin got charge me for the 18 inch winters at almost $400.00 each taxes included.

Really think Chev could have figured that out selling a car in Canada woudl most likely mean there woudl be snow. Its nice to say hey..get a beater for the winter...but 6 monthly paymenst go unused...and that just isnt sensible. I drov emy last two cars...a vw cabriolet....and a corolla S in the snow without problem or hesitation....so this is the option...I'd like to throw a pic or two on here of my car.....'specially with the new wheels! winter wheels at that...I will be the nevy of all winter drivers this year! LOL....picked up a set of 17" american racing coils....in gun metal with polished lip! Sweeeeet

I'm driving mine this winter - I have no choice, insurance for beater + cost of beater + cost of storage for SS = too much damn money. I bought a set of wheels off of a Pontiac G6 for $65/each and got a set of 205/60-R16 Dunlop WinterSport M3s for about $89/each.

Don't own the SS/SC but I know my dealership had 16" rims in stock that would fit the SS...they were something like $65.00/rim On my LS I ended up with 15" steels with a 195/65-R15 X-Ice tire which go on tomorrow (boy am I dreading that ). We'll see how well these work since they're my first set of winter tires but I've heard nothing but good things from people around work that have used them before.

I'm scared

I have a SS/SC. I am trying to figure out what kind of tires/wheels I need. I was wondering what is the smallest size of wheel that will fit& what kind of tires you would recommend. I really need something different for the winter. I live in Iowa& i have no other car to drive for the snow.. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

smallest size are 16's and the bolt pattern I forget but someone on this site will fill you in im sure but i remember its something x110. If your not going to be driving on snow all the time like me (more like ice , water, salt and slush) and dont mind paying extra money for top of the line tires i would go with Micheline xIce. I love them all the time and I dont lose out too much on performance. Just my .02$

How much did those tires run you? Did you keep them on the stock wheels, or did you use different wheels?
