HUGE fan of those wheels. Where were those in '05???

i like the rims, but imo gm should have changed it a little more instead of keeping the same design, just shows how creative they can be(not saying i dont like the way it looks lol)

Seats look good, but would look nicer with leather/suede combo instead of the weird black fabric. Brembos look sweet. Rims will look even better when lowered. Otherwise, very nice subtle changes bringing the turbo in. Overall, looks good.

You and me both , lol . There oughta be a few of these wadded up the first year :D .....and the seats too . I love the way my Recaro's feel , but the cheap leather is not aging gracefully . The new non-Recaro's look every bit as supportive as the old ones . Alcantara ftw :D

Not sure if its production or not , I blew the pics up in PS . The tires on the car are Continnental Sport contact 2's (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ContiSportContact+2) . Another mid pak tire , some F1 GS D3's would have been splendid :)

I said the same thing about the headlights..seriously time for an update GM! Whatever happened to the six speed though? Somone posted a sheet where they had it has a possible option? What happened to that?

This is a good point, you think atleast they could have aleast changed the front and rear lips, alot of the ss/sc guys like the gt rear lip,I would have like to see something like that.

Is it just me, or is the motor oriented the same way as ours? Isn't the LNF supposed to be RWD? Or is the '08 not getting RWD as an update? I'm confused...

Its like that to fit for FWD, just like the HHR SS. Yes I wish it were facing the other way but its better than nothing.

Were really lucky we even got this though . They put alot of damn money into what it is for a car that will only be on sale for 1.5 years . The mid cycle refresh was cancelled for 2008 because we get a all new car in 2010 on the new chassis .

no its not coming out in RWD. everyone says they would have to completely redesign the chassis for that to happen

Suppose so, but seems like if they wanted to just move the firewall and squish our feet a little, it'd work. Besides, I'm used to a motor thats halfway in the dash. 4th gen f-bodies....

I would say as long as the spindle is the same it is just a bracket, rotor and possbily a brake hose change to mate to the calipers. I don't believe it would require a master cylinder change or an ABS module upgrade.

Never heard of such problems, especially considering GM makes some of the best trannies in the world. I would need more proof, such as links.

If you look in the background you can see what looks like the other rims they will be offering, such as the polished 5 spoke and some 'mag' looking rims. Brakes are gonna be nice looking as well. I'll probably get the polished 5 spokes unless they offer something better.

Anyone else see the Camaro in the background?!

i think that cheapness just comes from the two-tone grey/black. the seats in the HHR/SS pictures (same seats) have red trim and look SWEET. i can't wait to see if the SS/TC seats will have the red/blue/yellow/black color choices. i think black on black would look great, personally.

That isn't a finished (production) SS Turbo. It is clear that it is an SS/SC that is running the LNF engine and had the interior, brakes, and wheels from the SS/TC added. The engine does not have the plastic cover that the HHR SS has on it's engine (see press photos of HHR SS). There is no "SS" logo on the steering wheel only the Chevy bowtie that has been on the SS/SC the past three years. The grill is the old one with the horizontal slates off the SS/SC (the new one has upper and lower air-dam cross-patern mesh). Also, if you look closely, the tachometer redlines at 6,500 RPM, NOT 6,300 RPM which is the LNF's redline.

I don't know how GM can show this car when it is not what the final production SS/TC will look like. How embarrasing! Too many idiots working at GM!

Would the real 2008 Cobalt SS Turbocharged please stand up! :)

Yeah, I guess you're right. Just because GM does something in the HHR they are definitely going to do it in the SS/TC. I'm glad some people know everything. And where are you guys seeing this picture of a Cobalt w/ a mesh grille?

And for all you guys dissing the seats. I've seen the HHR SS seats in person and they are kick-ass. They look higher end than even the Recaros, and worlds better than the old SS non-Recaro seats w/ colored inserts. Not to mention they won't get wrinkles/cracks like our cheap leather seats.

2K5SS/SC?
10-30-2007, 10:41 PM
I guess I'm the only one that is looking at where they placed the MAF sensor. Gee it's before the turbo just like I thought it would be. Take a hint turbo guys. :)

Also, those charge pipes are going to be easy to replace with some nice aluminum hard pipes as well. The flat spot in the stockers will indeed restrict airflow. The intercooler looks to be of quite a decent size too. 3" Catbacks available for the current Cobalt should bolt right up, so the aftermarket companies will only need to make a downpipe and turbo manifold for a bigger turbo. Since tuning is available for the LNF already, I'm sure HPTuners will be able to crack this shit like yesterday too. Shit I get way too many ideas when I see a new and fresh project.

I like the new wheels if they were sprayed gunmetal or bronze depending on the color of the car, which is an easy fix for me, plus it comes with 225/40/18 tires out of the factory versus our 215's.

Overall, I'm really liking this car and sort of want to strip mine to place my clutch and extra on it instead of fucking around with my twinscrew project. I'll take one it white please! :twothumbs

While people are loving or hating the turbo balt, I am going to join in.

Complaint:

Did you see the floor mats? UGH.....they SUCK BALLS.

Props:

Did you see the rims? Very slick looking.

Please feel free to agree or not agree with me. If you disagree, you're wrong (j/k)

In all seriousness, for what the car is, I think it's a nice package. We'll all just have to relax until they start showing up at dealer lots and see how they are rather than popping wood over the what-ifs.

See the Camaro in the background of some of the pics too. What can I hate about that car? Let me think a little bit and I'll get back to everyone.

Looks good, but yeah, the grill isn't the same as the one driven on the hellring. I would also rather have an all black dash rather than that silver. I hope its an option. And black on black seats will be DA BOMB!!

Did you guys see the new cuda pics too?

IMO, the grill looks like crap. The interior is ALL plastic. And look at those 1985 AC vents.  Carbon fiber is nice, even though it will disintigrate in 1 year in AZ's sun.

wow how come the engine is similar setup like the 2.4 ss engine...hmmm

Its also the same as the 07 2.2L. Nothin special, just Coil on Plug.

The original spy photos posted of the car. It is also listed in the GM press release.

The new fascia’s grille and the Cobalt’s upper grille sport a new, SS-specific diamond-mesh appearance.

The grill is clearly visible in these two shots.

Not a big fan of the twill seats. I think they will be very uncomfortable when waring shorts. I think if they would of brought the sued(sp) down below the legs it would be a bit more functional and less itchy. Other than than that he car looks great. With out looking under the hood it looks like the SS/SC and thats not a bad thing. I don't really see much that would bump the price of the car that much. As fare as the engine bay looks like a new age factory turbo engine. If you are worried about the looks, I'm sure there will be some after market dress up kits. There will probably be some stronger tubes for high hp applications aswell. Just my thoughts.

The rims in a gunmetal would suit it ALOT better and that engine bay is just ugly as sin! The SS/SC has a more dressed up engine bay. I also see that they didn't fix the problem of the seat not holding you in place! They also could of gone with new interior ideas. SS/SC all the WAY!

Based on my experience working at GM, the grill will obviously change from this show car, and of course the gauges etc. Something tells me they'll skimp on the SS steering wheel and updated silver finish and use what is found on the 07's. Yes folks, the silver trim was supposed to be different on the 08 SS. Cross your fingers before launch.

edit: my GM docs mention a leather wrapped parking break (I saw a post complaining about that). Let's hope for that too.

ARCHIE: You could always order a trim kit replacement from the G5, since it uses pseudo carbon fibre. You'll still have a silver stereo and HVAC though.

07 SS models came with the SS badges on the passenger side. at least i know mine did

Mine's an 06 and has the badge. They've always been there.

ok heres my take on the pics of the new ss/tc.
1. i like the new rims but i like the old ones better.
2. if you don't get the high rise spoiler with the ss/tc thats bull----.
3. brembos are great addition but could've came painted in red or other colr.
4. lower air dam looks boring and could've used a nicer grill
5. cd player & heating controls could use a face-lift.
6. and finally, for gods sake get rid of that cheap 1980's antenna.

and whatever i just said disregard because im gonna trade my SS in as soon the SS/TC hits the dealers.

Ha priceless.

2. You have the choice of the low or high-rise spoiler. Just like the 07's.
4. The actual lower grill isn't too bad. Wait till you see production pics.
5. Couldn't agree more.

I think the all the stuff they said was gonna be their will be there in the production cars as the yellow car is a modified 2007 with a flashy tint coat paint job . I think the yellow hybrid 07/08 lacking the special stuff is probably a result of parts not readily available yet . I think they will come thru on the trim as well . The HHR SS has the updated satin nickle trim in area's , so I dont see why they'd can it for the SS Cobalt . They did still have SS specfic trim in the press release . It isnt uncommon for small details like that to get ommited from a show car when the production version is quite a few months away . The wheels are supposed to be polished too , not silver ( unfortunately :D ) It should be a more complete car by the auto show season .

Dont anyone read into anythign else , I know how minds wander into some pretty unreal what if's on this site :D
Only additional new stuff u should see in the future is:
Satin nickel trim
SS logo in the same looking 05-07 cluster
Polished 10 spoke wheels
Upper and lower diamond mesh grills

Yes you're correct, with the addition of a leather wrapped parking break according to my spec sheet. But again, these things change so rapidly that I wouldn't be surprised to see any of the features we mentioned (an absolute pity).

At the time GM had to get this thing ready for SEMA, there were no production units available to ship. It's quite sad because at this stage that should be a final unit sitting on the floor. Thank God they didn't send one with no engine in it - they were notorious for this when the SS/SC was first shown off a few years ago. Some shows you could pop the hood and see the LSJ, others pretended they couldn't find the keys. The silver Pursuit sedan and blue/purple SS come to mind.

Ok after seeing the turbo balt upclose and personal, I gotta say its pretty cool. I would still take a sc balt over a turbo any day though. Just looking under the hood and seeing the 6.9 miles of piping makes me cringe. Even installing a CAI will be a complete bitch on that car. Plus the turbo is squashed next to the fire wall behind the engine. Not to mention is super tiny (look for my SEMA thread here in a couple days, nothing but SEMA pics). Anywho, other than that, its pretty sick. Interior looks completely unchanged from current 07 model. Its got small spoiler, and the same front/rear bumper and side skirts, and the same ss badges. Except instead of the little silver "supercharged" badge, its got one that looks almost identical, but says "turbocharged". I didn't really like that, because there is no differenciation between the sc and tc cars. However, the yellow on the tc balt is 10000X better than the sc. It is one of the most sexy colors I've ever seen!!!! Its the same basic yellow, except it has metal flakes in it, its just beautiful!!!! You have to see it in real life to understand  All in all, pretty good car. I can't wait to demolish them on the streets :D

I noticed that in one of the pictures, I hope that carries over to the production models, even though I won't be buying a new one. Maybe when the car gets re-painted.

Looking at those wheels closer , they look almost exactly like my 2002 Z24 wheels only they are bigger and aren't chrome. Anyone else notice that or am i blind.

EDIT: I guess they have a couple of differences , but i guess we know where the design originated .

That is a special yellow GM puts on their concept cars. It was on the 03-05 Yellow Turbosport Cavalier concept car. Beautiful paint, I recall one article saying the paintjob was worth more than J-Lo's ass. :)

I actually recently purchased the ENTIRE drivetrain from the Silver Turbosport concept cavalier. 2.2 Ecotec, GM tuned PCM, Full turbo kit/dp with 321stainless tubular header, Garrett T28, ported head, nitrided journals and magnafluxed crank, trans w/ centerforce clutch all done by Wheel to Wheel performance for GM. I'll definetly make a thread here and on jbody.org when its done. Theres much more to the car, but I've hijacked enough already.

Dude, I hate to tell you but the Cavalier was not the first car to have 10 spoke rims. If you're going to compare the new rims to another car, why not the Z06 rims? Those look more like the new SS/TC ones than those Cavalier ones you posted.

Dude, no they don't. Look at the curves on the inside of spokes by the lugs , they are way closer to the cavy wheels than the wide spaced Z06 wheels .

To bad they are identical to the stock 05-06 SS/SC wheels with an extra cut in the middle of the 5 spoke...

I was talking about the crappy looking BARRACUDA interior, not the Cobalt SS. And the carbon fiber was the hood and trunk and such (probably not going in the production model). I'm sure interior carbon fiber trim would be fine in AZ, since the sun doesn't really get to it.

I rather like the cobalt interior the way it is. I don't like the way all the car companies are going to this futuristic-retro interiors. The only things that should be changed, is what we are all hoping for, the silver interior trim. And the necessity of a leather wrapped e-brake.

The original spy photos posted of the car. It is also listed in the GM press release.

The grill is clearly visible in these two shots.

Anybody think the aftermarket will make lower springs for the new SS? By these pictures, the ride looks pretty low. No "Dead Cat Hole" there at all. :cssNET: :cssNET:

The suspension has the same model number on the new SS as the current one. That would lead one to beleive that any current market lowering spring (ie: SSC, Sportline) will work fine.

You sure?? The double spokes bend out a tad from the lugs then level off as the spoke goes to the "lip"... the current SS wheel does the bend a tad closer to the lip... Now I know what you're saying could be done with the current wheels, but keep in mind these are supposed to be 18" x 7.5" for production. Hopefully they didn't re-cut current inventory wheels (though that would help with weight). Pray they are "all new wheels"... :cssNET: :cssNET:

Does anyone think that the new wheels could be an attempt to eliminate wheel hop? Or is that impossible? Somebody mentioned that they would be lighter, and the idea popped in my head. Does anyone w/ lighter aftermarket rims notice any reduction in wheel hop, or am I just wishful thinking?

FYI , Alcantara(Ultra lux) suede is as pricey as leather . I cant believe GM of all companies used it in a low priced car like a Cobalt . Good riddens to the elCheapo shiney pleather .

AMEN!!! I guarantee none of the people ripping on the seats have seen them in person. And the people that think the leather non-Recaro seats are nice obviously have never been in an expensive car before. If you can find me cheaper looking leather on another car, let me know, cause I don't think you will find it.

When are auto makers gonna kick bulbs? The SS (at least) should roll out with some H.I.D.'S!

Those new wheels must weigh at least half that of the current ones.
