05redline 10-30-2007, 11:42 PM LOL! Dealers will tell you anything, and yet people are still stupid enough to buy into the hype.
E-Town SS 10-30-2007, 11:43 PM LOL! Dealers will tell you anything, and yet people are still stupid enough to buy into the hype.
Yeah...dealers are GAY! Except when they sell you a car you really want...then they are pretty cool.
Gaylords.
2WILD4U 10-30-2007, 11:45 PM Dealers Will Tell You Anything To Get You Back. Trust Me I Work At A Dealership............ Its Corupted
fballman1987 10-30-2007, 11:45 PM i would not believe that info at all...especially since all the details havent even been confirmed, you think they'll throw it together in 3 months?
SilverSS/SC 10-30-2007, 11:50 PM You might wanna tell them its gonna more like 6-7 months , no sooner ;)
EVERYBODY knows more than the dealer :D
Spectral 10-31-2007, 12:23 AM lol i talked to a sales person at a dealer that i know well and he said MAYBE march but probably not till april.
and thats at the biggest dealer in WA so they would be one of the first up here to get the new ss/tc
DarkCobalt13 10-31-2007, 12:26 AM My dealer knew nothing about a Cobalt Turbo......... So at least yours is caught up on the news......... Im going to take my tax check and put that down towards the SS/tc. Hopefully by then they will be at least taking orders for them.
REIGN SS 10-31-2007, 12:41 AM They will have an 08 HHR SS in 3 months, but i bet it will be June before a dealer can get a LNF Cobalt
SUKXOST 10-31-2007, 12:44 AM I thought they said 2nd quarter of 08 is the release. It's already the FY08 1st quarter. That would mean Jan-Mar. I'm guessing late March. ????
hatrickstu 10-31-2007, 12:46 AM its gonna be released about the same time the 05's were i bet
WopOnTour 10-31-2007, 01:04 AM I thought they said 2nd quarter of 08 is the release. It's already the FY08 1st quarter. That would mean Jan-Mar. I'm guessing late March. ????err AFAIK it's currently Q4 of 07...
If you trust the statements from the GM press release the car could start appearing at dealers anytime between April 1 and June 30 2008 (Q2)
WOT

I went to my dealer as well, we've got something set up. I should have mine in mid-end February.
The reason they are able to get them in 3 months is because GM failed to put in their press conference notes that it will be availabe in FYQ2. The dealership told me that GM FYQ1 starts November 1st. So.. that means Nov/Dec/Jan is Q1, and Feb/Mar/Apr is Q2.
According to the information I read on the screen of the GM pages at the dealership (the order pages they look up when ordering new cars) it says that these cars are available for 'pre-order' as of the 29th of October, (as in, this past Monday). According to the sales manager (the person I'm dealing with for this, as a close friend of mine used to work for him and he hooked me up when I bought my current SS/SC) if they are available for 'pre-order' that usually means a 3-4 month turn around on arrival.
Onyxd04Redline 10-31-2007, 02:22 PM Local dealership where i bought my vette was more then happy to take my deposit on a Black SS stripper with G85 as the only option.
AZCobalt19 10-31-2007, 02:26 PM Dealerships are stupid. Awhile back I remember looking at an 06 SS/SC and they pulled it out and brought it up front me and such, and I swear to God, the guy gets out of the car, looks at me and says, "Man, this SS is sure nice. Isn't it turbocharged with like 300 horsepower?"
I will never set foot at Freeway Chevrolet again.
Dumbasses.
Point in case, don't listen to what dealers have to say about anything.

I agree with you completely that salesman are absolute fucking tools. And I'm not going to say that I went in there and they even knew what the fuck I was talking about.
I went into the dealership, told them I wanted to trade up, and the guy looked at me like I was stupid and said "Why would you want to go from that to a Sport?" I laughed, and said, no I want what's not available for another 6 months.
He gave me a confused look, and we went to his desk. Sat down and I started to talk about the cars features that were announced on Saturday. He was digging through GM reference pages and backend websites they get their info from. While I'm talking about the car, he interupts me and continues reading off the features list as his eyes grow wider and wider. By the end of it, his jaw had dropped and he said "That's going to be a fast car...."
Anyway, story book aside... after all that, he turned his monitor around, and started showing me all the information they had on the car at this point (it was extremely slim-nill) as it was just announced. What he was able to find was the listing for a "260hp 2.0L Turbocharged Cobalt 2008 Coupe" which had it's order date listed as "October 29th, 2007"
Needless to say, he has asked me to come back at the end of the week, and he's going to do what he can to get information on this car by then. So, I'm going back Friday, and hopefully the dealings will start to be finalized.
rukkee 10-31-2007, 03:55 PM I can't wait for all the SS/SC part out's. I need a CAI lol.
alleycat58 10-31-2007, 04:02 PM how can they have it in 3 months if its going to be a mid 08 model? I wouldnt trust that info
Yeah, mid-08 means March/April. Put it this way the 05 SS/SC was "mid-05" It didn't go into production until late Feb/early March, late March I believe is when the first one rolled off a dealer lot.
TPRMcfly 10-31-2007, 04:07 PM Any idea on a price range for the SS/TC?
alleycat58 10-31-2007, 04:16 PM Any idea on a price range for the SS/TC?
I thought they said right around $23-24k. I'm guessing it will go for just over what the SS/SC went for, but give it time it'll drop after the inital push. The SS/SCs came out in March of 05, in June of 05 I walked out w/mine for $19,600

My fully loaded 07 was 24,700 So maybe it would be that with no G85 or xm or anything
G85 SS 11-01-2007, 09:01 PM Yea, it is a mid year release as other said. However if it does come in white I am so sold on the damn thing. that's what I wanted for this one.
Only problem is I hope the seats look better in person, on the pictures they look....i dunno, kinda tacky.

Stangkilr 11-02-2007, 01:56 AM I work at a large chevy dealer. Im going to get some dibs on a white one tomorrow.
im using my incme tax money plus what im saving right now to get me one, im leaving my balt right now to my parents and stepping it up, im tired of having a damn 2.2, when i told my friends what i was gunna get, they were lost in translation, i told them, turbocharged, direct injected, 260hp, 260trq at 2k, they had that "i hope something goes wrong between now and than" took on their faces
bryce712 11-04-2007, 03:01 AM ^^^ thats messed up. id be happy my friends were interested in a new decent car coming out. but i wont be getting a first year one. ill put it that way. i saw what the 05 ss's went through and i dont want to deal with that

alleycat58 11-04-2007, 10:42 AM My fully loaded 07 was 24,700 So maybe it would be that with no G85 or xm or anything
I was giving a base price. Usually that's what you go buy unless someone specifically asks "What do you think it'd be fully loaded."

Those kinda problems should not be much of an issue, since the car is not changing that much. The engine has been out for a year and most of the bugs should be worked out, but anything is possible.
went out last night to a local meet and talked to my friend about getting the tc balt, and he said i'd beb better off getting the sky redline...and now im thinking about it, i dont have to wait for the sky, cuz its out, and its lighter and most likely faster due to its RWD, hmmm

would u rather have one passenger,or four including u? u'r choice?
Red2.4SS 11-04-2007, 05:06 PM Would be sweet if ya didn't need the cargo / passenger space.
blackedbalt 11-04-2007, 05:18 PM i was planning to go to the dealership tomorrow and see about a cobalt ls, but if this is true, shit ill wait the extra four-five months, maybe preorder mine tomorrow?

I think that it will be worth the wait.
to me its not worth the wait, i decided on gettin a soltice or a sky, im to impatient to wait for the balt, when the engine is already sittin in both those cars...and its Rwd
kjn24 11-05-2007, 03:30 PM have fun haulin nothing but the pussy youll pick up in it.

But the balt and sky/solstice are not priced similarly. If you can afford it and don't need the extra seats then go for it!!
disposable_her0 12-13-2007, 01:20 PM the 2 chevy dealerships around here dont know shit...ill probably have to go to atlanta or something
Red2.4SS 12-13-2007, 08:21 PM I have heard that they will begin taking orders for presale in February sometime. Can't be 100% sure though.

memphisr24 12-13-2007, 08:43 PM The dealer I go to knows a lot. But it's mostly because of some of the people that work there...and mostly everytime I go, I talk to a salesman and tell them everything I know lol...and for some reason, every one of them tries to get me to test drive a Monte Carlo SS....they must not sell well or something
FacelessKhaos 01-04-2008, 09:23 PM okay...talked to the dealer yesterday and they told me that they have 5 2008 Cobalt SS on order and the first 2 being delivered late Feb early March, they confirmed that they are the Turbo cobalts, i didn't talk to a sales person but one of the general managers about it, considering that they are trying right now to get rid of the last SS/SC (with LSD and recaro package) on the lot, it's sitting on the showroom floor and nobody wants it.

sorry bud Im gonna have to call BS on that one......the dealer is blowing smoke up ur arse......production starts 2nd week of march....no public production just the qualifiers.....and wont be able to order unitl the first week in feb maybe sooner if GM pushes out the paperwork to GMdealerworld, sorry to be the downer but its true.....I'm not sure if you remember or were on the site when the 1st cobalts hit, but I gave a lot of insight to when they would be released and ordered. so i'd tell your dealer to stop feeding you a line of crap

ssaddiction 01-06-2008, 04:46 AM turboed cobalts are to be released in april saw a commercial a few weeks ago
rukkee 01-12-2008, 04:19 PM If i had to guess i would look for the largest volume chevy dealers to get them first .
mcz34man 01-13-2008, 03:05 PM got to drive one at the milford proving grounds......sorry no pics......went up for a training session...all i can say is that its an '07 '08 model body, performance is ok seemed to be a bit sluggish... my opionion the supercharged is better
Lawnchair 01-13-2008, 04:53 PM Don't know if you can trust that info. I asked my dealer about the turbo 3 weeks ago and he just started telling me about how they got rid of the supercharged version, oblivious to its replacement by the turbo. Then he got mad like I was pulling his chain when I started giving him turbo facts. I don't get it, its a dealers job to know the cars they sell.
srowler9 01-13-2008, 05:18 PM Even though the turbo motor has been out in other model cars, it will be he first for the cobalt model. I'm telling you that the first year model of any car has flaws and bugs. Some tuning issues, engine management, or even chassis problems. I never buy the first year of any model, but that is just me. I will wait a year for GM to fix any flaws before i would even consider the ss/tc.
ml2242 01-13-2008, 05:31 PM I'm friends with the son of the owner of a GM dealer around me (Lannan Chevrolet), and his dad has been telling him that he thinks the 08 ss/tc will be out on the floor by mid may. They are saying the second quarter of 2008 so that sounds right.

What flaws with tuning or engine managment? the motors been out for some time now. just the stawk is dropping the baby to a different set of parents. its already been born and eats and shits fine :-)

when did you start thinking dealers were smart and actually knew much about the stuff they sell  more than 3/4 of the dealerships out there are brainless and just say hey its blue it looks good you wanna buy it?
FastSSinNH 01-17-2008, 08:30 PM Im absolutely blown away about how little car salesmen know about cars. When I bought my ss/sc I told him thats what I was looking for. He brings me over to an SS/NA and I told him "No, im looking for the SC version" He says "Ummmm no I think this one is the turbo one or supercharged. Its got like 250 hp, this thing really cooks" I say "No this is the NA one, this is not what im looking for" he says "Are you sure? I think ss means supercharged" I just rolled my eyes and told him I had to go. Went a few towns over and bought the SS/SC I was looking for. Then while I was getting my oil changed the other day, I was talking to a sales person about the TC and it started all over again. "Yeah its supposed to have like 350 hp" I just said "oh cool" rolled my eyes and walked back into the seating area...
pimpnwink 01-17-2008, 08:43 PM wow dealers are rediculous lol.
BostonBoy 01-17-2008, 09:00 PM Just think these are the same guy's who say there sales are down. I say when the have spare time read up on you're cars you are selling & do you're homework.

When I went to buy mine the guy was saying to me, "we have the 4cyl supercharged over there" -as he pointed to the SS/NA - I said, "no, I want this one right here" and he goes "oh, this is the one with the high output V-6, not the Supercharged 4cyl you were talking about". What an absolute moron. I showed him the window sticker on it and he said nothing more to me for the rest of the night we were there. Did all of the paperwork with the manager. Who was still dumber than a box of hammers.

07MetallicSC 01-17-2008, 11:32 PM I was talking to a rep for GM Performance about my SS/SC cobalt and he asked if i got automatic or standard.... These are the people that GM puts out to represent their name?!

Seriously, Its not like I expect them to know who assembled my engine or how many square feet of carpet was used for the car. I would think they should know SOMETHING about the products they sell.
