you guys and gals who come across anything about the clutch for the 08 SS please put it here. I have the original clutch on my SS/SC but if my head was not screwed on tight I would not have any forward motion today....LOL

it is okay for street but not good for track where there is alot of traction. basically if the tires dont slip then the clutch will..

I hope GM did not put in the same clutch. My guess is no due to the power levels the LNF is doing and torque it delivers. Plus for the competition they want a better clutch for racing as well.

thank you ALL.

WORST thread ever.. and the SS/SC clutch can handle the power output of the lnf. jus not the lead foot of most SS/SC owner's..i know of atleast one guy with DAMN near 300 WHP and he's on the factory clutch. why would GM put a stronger clutch in the LNF for racing? it makes no sense... racing VOIDS WARRENTY

boy racing voids warranty!? who cares if you involved in racing for GM supplied vehicles. dont you know there is a racing series that the cobalt competes in. they were not able to use the GMS2 pulley for racing in this series as it was deemed not factory. guess what else? the clutch needed to be stock. they used many.

My clutch slipped mid way in second gear just this year. it does not have the clamping force for a well prepped track. I do not go to the track and abuse my car. I go once in awhile to see how fast it is and have fun going fast to be legal (I depend on having a licence for my employment so I dont risk street racing). it did not slip at the beginning of second but half way way through. I shift early from 1st to second. I am usually am at 3200RPM in second. by the peak of torque curve at 5,000 rpm it slipped. I have it record on HPT. you can see it. I didnt race for the rest of the day. It is holding on the street.

bottom line - it holds for the street but not for a well prepped strip.

anyway stop bashing and get me info. let me draw my own conclusion. is it the same clutch?

oh and show me the guy with stock clutch and 300WHP. what is his setup and dyno please. I do find it hard to believe. I have not seen a single person with that kind of build yet. he must be the fastest cobalt with a SC. I want to see a slip.

06gblackg85SS/SC.. he is in new york.. and he's OVER 300 with his turbo swap now.. and still on the factory clutch with i think 30k on the odometer.. and NEVER an issue.. and i wasnt bashing. there not gonna put in a strip friendly clutch. cause that way when they have 100 million LNF balt's in for clutch work they KNOW not to warrenty it. cause it was ABUSED weither RACING or not.. abuse isnt covered under warrenty either. but i guess you know that and everything else which is why your asking the most retarted question. which you should know the answer to. its the SAME SAAB F35 in the SS/SC. so it will be the same clutch assembly. here's somthing you may not know. 99% of the time is isnt even a clutch plate issue. its a pressure plate issue. i have a degree in automotive technology.

326 whp lol on a low reading dyno. Equates to around 350+whp on every other dyno here in NY (I know cause I ran on most of em and checked my differences) But have been @290+ for almost 20k and now over 300whp for the last 2k and no clutch issues yet to speak of (at 25,725 miles right now). If you treat em right, they will love you right back. Also have 50+ passes on the track 18 with slicks on the car and it still doesn't slip, plus many many tuning pulls from 0-120+mph, probably @100 of those, and a few street races here and there (which I don't condone). But these clutches are very sensitive to being ridden out. You slip the clutch to hard and ride it out. it glazes over and then with continuous beating (like I see most people do) it will be done. But if it does glaze, and you baby it for a while, it will come back. It's not a bad clutch at all and if I'm not mistaken our factory units are basically an exedy stage I (which is why there is no stage I available by them aftermarket). Just gotta drive it right and all will be well.

did no response

Retarded question eh. LOL Well a clutch is not a warranty item period. guess you didnt know that. I dont care what education you have. I already said clamping force and since you have a degree you know everything except if they actually did or didnt change up the clutch. there is so many little changes to the cobalt that you maynot even be aware of. that is why I think your ignorant to think gm will sit back on there laurels and wont change something like the clamping force of a presure plate?

I have an AUTO DIESEL certificate, Business Admin, and 4th level CGA, BCLS life saver trained, and I am a Professional RN. But I dont act like I know everything about cars and dont treat people like an ass unless they truly are an ass...
rant done have a nice day. Oh and I was not bashing you.

bottom line if you dont know then dont say a thing.

Thanks but I know how to drive. the clutch slipping has happened twice to me and I do take care of my car. I had issues with clutch at 3000miles and again now at 30,000 miles. nothing inbetween. second time was at the track where there is lots of traction and the tires did not slip. so the clutch did. not every car is the same. you guys have to understand there is tolerances in peices. just like there are some stock cobalts that run 14.7 and others that run 14.1 due to factory variences that produce a great motor and maybe some that are dogs. but that is not what this thread is about so please do not derail it. basically if you cannot answer the question and want to high jack and insult then do it else where.

Please provide useful info. and not opinions thanks.

I did not state any opinions in my post there guy.... just info from what I"ve experienced with the 30+ cobalts I"ve worked on.

Yeah your opinion was that there is no updates on cobalts for 2008 and then opinion that it is not needed based on your experience. but your experience is not the same as others on this forum. there have been many clutch problem threads here and there are others who seek new clutch as well. many have it in there mod list. If your clutch is good then great but that is not the same for all

now the question that you could answer is does GM have an improved or change to the clutch for the LNF. so if you have a connection with GM please ask and state who you talked too.

thanks.

I have read many things about the 2008 SS TC. It all sounds great.

I own a 2005 ss sc cobalt now. but the clutch is not great. it scares me in fact that if I put my foot into it it will slip and I will burn it out.

has the clutch been addressed for the 2008 model. if so I want to get one. otherwise I hate to say it but I may not buy the cobalt again?

please let me know with details. thank you.

I got the dealer to replace my clutch at 9k cause it was fried. They tried to tell me I beat on it and I said who the hell cares, I have fun with it. However Im not dumping it at 5k every day. NO clutch should go out at that ammount of miles. After they put the new one in, I could tell my old one started slipping A LONG time ago, maybe around 5k miles. Shit I didnt even get on the car for the first thousand miles either.
