View Full Version : 2008 SS - Can a USA order be made yet?
Asphalt Assault 11-16-2007, 02:53 AM I went to a dealer in canada and I cant order it. nothing on system yet and I am told that there is no paper system to factory order this car.
The dealer thought it may come up as an item to order in the US first. Has anyone in the USA tried?
thanks.
bryce712 11-16-2007, 02:56 AM tried and got nothing out of it. good luck though.

Yeah get pics cause I having a hard time believing that you saw what you feel you did see. Sorry it is not a question of character. that would have to the only dealer since production has not even started for this car.
JonyyB 11-19-2007, 04:00 PM Dealers here have no idea that there will be an 08 cobalt ss t/c… they try to tell me I’m wrong. It’s embarrassing how uneducated GM dealers can be.

Too funny JonyyB....LOL dealers here know about it but no idea whats on it like the FE5 suspension, the brembo brakes and such. they just think its a turbo and thats it. I told them about the Fuel injection system and they thought I was talking out my A$$ till they looked at the soltice.....LOL.
If the car was RWD it would be perfect. but the dream ends there. LOL. going to be a fun car. hope I get one, but I dont think I will strike a deal or be able to unload my SC version with a lease take over.
Pappa Axe 11-19-2007, 06:05 PM the dealer I talked to today didn't know shit about the SS/tc, not that I would buy if from those assholes anyway, I would drive to houston if I had to to avoid doin buisiness with them, and personally, an AWD cobalt would be the shit, lol:thumb::twothumbs:guns:

I would buy that as well. just dont see that platform coming quickly as easy as the soltice/sky drive train is ready. just need a coupe body.

Pappa Axe 11-19-2007, 10:25 PM AWD, keep dreaming people.
lol, I'm sure that someone with the cash to blow out their ass or their own custom shop will eventually try to frankenstien one, I just think it would be a nice option, make it even funner to drive

i agree, it would be nice, fun, and practical to drive, but it will never come from the production plants of GM. (dont even bring up Saab:rolleyes:) people with money and time can do anything though. i would love to see an AWD version but with more power output to compensate for drivetrain loss.
REIGN SS 11-20-2007, 04:02 AM lol here in ny our east syracuse chevy dealer actually has a model in the showroom,

2006recarross 11-21-2007, 10:16 AM hello, went to the dealership yesterday because was just curious, well on their computer it brought up a 2008 ss s/c, but then when you went to engine specs it said turbo, it had some flaws in it, but it was the 2008 ss turbo and it said on there that they can order it dec. 10 of 2007, sorry about the typing i know its bad but i just woke up and am really tired haha, if you all dont believe me call this number , 1660-885-2278, its my dealership i deal from, and they will tell you, i personally saw it on their computer,
supersound99ss 11-21-2007, 01:04 PM ^that maybe more believeable...i know when i went to the dealer 2 weeks ago they couldn't find a listing on the computer
Asphalt Assault 11-22-2007, 02:06 AM I believe you.... wrong or not that sounds realistic for GM LOL

Finally made it over there...the ONLY cobalt in the showroom is a non supercharged 2007 model. Spoke to my salesman and they won't see them 'til June earliest according to him.

so how much did it come out to be? and what options did you get?
DNewman 12-04-2007, 10:50 AM I was given an estimate of $25,000 because he didnt have exact pricing on the 08. What we did is figure up the cost of an 07 the way I wanted it and then added $3000 to that price. I ordered it without the factory sub, just a plain am/fm cd radio because I will be putting in my indash dvd and subs once i get it. I also ordered it without a sunroof and that knocked $800 off.

Interesting. I spoke with the person that actually submits the orders at my local dealership and she said she wouldn't have any specifics on pricing or options or even be able to place an order until March. She's followed up twice with me as she gets updated information so I'm fairly confident she's looped in with the "main office." If you put down a deposit, one has to wonder if your money wouldn't be better left in the bank for the next few months earning interest? Seems to me the dealership isn't acting in YOUR best interest taking money for a car they can't even order for another four months. Just a thought.

They said that the deposit was necessary to order any new vehicle. I think it is just to make sure i'm not ordering a car and then not purchase it. Like I said, we went off 2007 S/C specs just to get an estimate because I will be purchasing the car regaurdless of price.

I guess my point is, I would verify that the dealership can actually order the car before I plop my money down. Unless this particular dealership has an inside track at GM, the opening of the system for orders is supposed to be March with first deliveries expected in April.
True - orders require a deposit and I'm not arguing that point. I plan on ordering one as well, but I'll be damned if I'm going to hand over $1000 without a confirmed 2008 SS/TC order form with correct option codes, an agreed upon purchase price and complete verification. It's your money, but taking money for a car order that can't actually be placed is a poor business practice and ethically questionable. It wouldn't be the first time a dealership engaged in questionable business practices. Obviously you're eager for the car and obviously the dealership is eager to get the sale, but you've just given them the upper hand. Caveat emptor. I hope it all works out for you.
EcotecRacer 12-09-2007, 06:54 PM GM at SEMA, stated Orders could not even be placed for the Cobalt SS/TC until March, and may have them ready to go in April 2008............That being said the HHR SS was suppose to be ready to order in October.....its now December and dealers are able to place orders(i believe, not 100% sure)

My dealer said I can place an order for the HHR SS in an auto now. Standard coming soon. (Not that I was inquiring). they didnt know for sure when the Cobalt SS would be online for order but they did tell me that since the standard HHR is supected in December for order and the Cobalt SS was stated for GM's 2nd quarter (jan, feb, Mar) that it would make sense for around december 10 as a good possibility. they will be calling me as soon as it can be ordered so we price it out (and I grind them for a deal).
we'll see if that logic holds up. I hope so.
supersound99ss 12-10-2007, 01:27 PM there's a pic around here from the auto showing "Cobalt SS...Coming in April 2008" so i seriously doubt we'll be able to order at least for a few more months
Rangerondubz 12-10-2007, 01:32 PM I have one in my driveway
eckow8 12-10-2007, 07:22 PM its december 10, anyone try and order one?

Yeah they were supposed to be delivered then but ordering sooner. well I guess it is all misinformation. There is still nothing at the dealer on it. got back from them today. and I am not even sure you can order the HHR SS in an auto any more. thought you could but.....
oh well. just going to wait till the dealer calls now. let me know if any of you see anything official on paper please not words. Words just let you down usually....LOL
sheprd 12-13-2007, 05:45 PM On the Chevy website under "build your Cobalt", the 2008 SS is in the drop down menu, but selecting it still takes you to the other models...
