Best limited slip for the 2.4L auto / 4t45e tranny
Over on J-Body.org "team green" or Brian W from Wisconson, sells a LSD for the cavalier/sunfire, and I think the cobalt's also. It is just like Phantom grip, but about 1/2 the price
Only $200 I think for the 2 plates and 4 heavy duty springs
They are made from oil hardened tool steel, then tempered to releave the stresses in the plates.
They will last a VERY VERY long time.
If anyone is intereted in them PM us we will hook you up with his contact info.

id check out http://www.engineered.net/eplsd.htm they make a true clutch style limited slip, not just a preload insert that just puts load on the carrier with no friction surface. i had an EP diff in my old car, it worked amazingly well. on drag radials, burnouts starting in 2nd gear i never had a 1 tire fire, and launching at 5500rpm with a v6, not an issue at all. also was very well behaved on the street, never a chatter and pulled well out of a corner.

the site hasnt been updated in years but jeff (the guy at EP) is still building them, no time to update the site. they only build the race version now, the only difference is the preload plates (street was stamped steel, race is billet steel).
race version for my old getrag 282 was $599 iirc.

Quaife is still the premier choice, the LSD insert plates IMO are good for up to about 250 HP after that IMO get a Quaife as you have a lot of power you are trying to get to the ground.
The Quaife is well worth the money. Well i didnt pay for it, came with the car, but i would have purchased one as soon as i got my car.
Limited slip will "lock" your differential when one tire starts to spin. A open differential will always send the power to the tire with the least traction. A limited slip corrects most of this and creates a close to a 50/50 distibution of power between tires. Even better is a locker, but those are best for pure drag/off road conditions. Try launching in a car that is pushing the traction limits of the tire, with and without the LSD. Difference is night and day. I've seen some people pull seconds, not tenths of a second off of quarter times because of LSD/Locker set ups.
On the J-Bodies they are the same as the 4 speed auto and the F23 getrag. I am not sure on the cobalt Auto and the F23 manual. Brian would know I am sure.
Also Brian has tested and verified the F35 getrag found in the 2.0 SC engine/tranny for the LSD plates
