General Exclaim UHP, anyone have them?

I need tires. I can't afford another set of KDWs right now, and it would be cheaper/easier to get a set of DR's on different rims and buy regular tires for daily driving.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Exclaim+UHP&v ehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&partnum=24WR8E UHPXL

Thats the one I want, $380 for the set shipped to me. About half the price of the KDWs and they should last longer too.

Just wanted to see if anyone has used them or has them on the car now, prefer an SS/SC but any input would be welcome. Thanks!

nobody??

I ran these tires for one season and really liked them. Tire wear for me was a little better than the OEM tires. I see you live in Florida so freezing temps wont be a problem for you. I just took them off and installed my winter tires. I will be purchasing this tire again.

Nice. You have some power in your car, they held it in second gear? How was the handling overall? Braking? Wet weather? Just want a little feedback from a Cobalt driver. Different cars react to different tires in different ways.

I rate this tire with better traction than OEM dry and vastly superior in the wet. Get them you won't be disappointed. Oh yeah, and the price is right!

Sounds good. It will still be a step down for me from the KDWs, but I cant afford that much extra right now.

I have these tires and I severly doubt they will compare to KDWs in terms of traction but if you are just looking for a DD tire then the treadlife is amazing on them.

I know, I hope that I'll get better life out of them. I've gotten about 18K out of each set of KDWs, but I drive the car hard so I expect them to wear. Still, at $800 a set, they are too expensive to replace right now. It would be cheaper to buy the $400 generals and a pair of rims with DRs for race nights.

Joe... it depends on what you do w/ your car... I know someone I Auto-X with and he has the UHP's, I was curious about them and asked his opinion... he said they down right sux...
most of the people I Auto-X with look for a good balance between traction, cornering grip and treadwear as we use them as daily tires 99% of the time.
I trust his opinion and I would stay away from the UHP's.

Other good options are:
Kumho ECSTA SPT's (I personally had these on my last car)
http://www.kumhousa.com/tires/passen...performance.do
Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 (I know someone who I race with who loves these)
http://www.hankooktireusa.com/produc...il.asp?pid=233

the SPT is a level below the Hankook a comparable Kumho is the MX

here is a link to the Car & Driver HP tire test... hope it helps

treadwear /= traction

you have to sacrifice one for the other, a sticky tire is not going to last very long and a tire with a high treadwear rating is not going to be very sticky. i got these tires about 40K ago and they still have plenty of tread left on them, my traction though is terrible at the track. I got them as a cheap summer tire and had no idea they would blow up and be so popular. For any type of competitive driving I would go elsewhere as these IMO are just some DD tires with slight performance.

so if you're broke - get them!

I'm going the opposite way though i want some KDWs for the fronts & maybe a set of DR's on stock wheels.

yes KD's and KDW's are kick butt.... at this point I can't afford to have them for DD's or as a separate set of race rubber...hopefully next season!

To explain what I know about KDW's
I was running in my Auto-X class against an MR2.... I beat him in the 2006 season....
2007 he comes back w/ KDW's and beats me...with nothing more than tires

I'm with ya, the KDWs are sick for traction, I love everything about them, straight line, cornering, braking, outstanding wet traction. Just too expensive right now, and the fronts are at 2/32, so they need to go. Usually I don't wait this long, but I had to have two root canals done that set me back $2500, so I'm not trying to spend a penny more than I have to right now. I think I'll go with the Generals, if I don't like them, I'll sell them. No big deal, they'll work for what I need for now.
