company i work for is gona need a 2.4 for testing for exhaust and a header

not to many companies have done much testing on the 2.4's , but from what can tell the 2.0s/c systems and the 2.4 is the same cat back

I think it's some kind of muffler. My friend at work had one on his Neon SRT-4. It made sort of a purring sound.

its a term for part of the exhaust. Cat back, means everything from the catalytic converter on back. Pretty much an exhaust is Header, downpipe, cat, then the rest of the piping and muffler are the cat back.

It is for emissions. It filters out some of the stuff that is bad for the enviroment from the exhaust.

Every car comes with a CAT. The only state that you are able to have no CAT on your car leagly is florida. In every other state if you get caught with no cat on your car it is expensive. In NJ i beleve the fine is $5000-$20,000. Cops don't check if you have a cat on your car tho. If you have no CAT on your car you will NOT pass inseption.

A CAT makes the car go slower b/c it hurts the flow of the exhaust. If you want you can buy a high flow cat, but you will make the most power with no CAT.

Can you just take the CAT off and say you bought the car in Florida? Or do you need proof?

You have to LIVE in florida.
You can also do it if your car is registerd in florida which means that you would have florids licence plates on your car.

your car makes power with air and gas, after the air and gas has been used it goes out the exhaust pipe.. the faster the air leaves the engine and out into the world.. the more hp itll make.. the catyletic convertor"cat" limits that flow of air out your engine and filters harmful particles... thus making the exhuast air leave the engine slower:) with a high flow cat the air isnt as filter and the the air going through it goes much faster...

sort of like a doorway.. the bigger the doorway the more people that can fit through it at a time

No I don't have a cobalt. I Like the cobaltSS but the SRT-4 is cheeper faster and has alot more left in it then the cobalt does.

actually that isnt true , unless the cat is bad

95% of all the cats are high flow , and have very low restriction , granted after market cats do flow better , but usually at the cost or slightly higher emissions

and most cat backs go from just behind the cat all the way to the tip , but in the case of the cobalts because the cat is very close to the manifold , the exhaust is considered more of a rear section

and you cant compair a srt/4 to a cobalt the srt's do not have mufflers on the , because of them being turbo charged , the turbo's quiet the exhaust because they are a large restriction in the exhaust stream

most likely. most 4 banger aftermarket exhaust are gunna sound like that because the engines are just small. But there uare sually a couple set ups that keep the rice to a minimum.
hopefully with the 2.4 there will be a good set up since the engine is a little bigger than the standard 2.2.

uhhh yeah... catalytic converters are neccicary, if you dont use one you are just poisoning your air... all those hydrocarbons and such...
but, way to hi jack the thread claw and steph!

I personally would go with a cat back, or maybe a 40 series; I have been hearing a lot of those around here.

haha, there was this new girl at work at my old department. I still head there usually before starting my shift in the ER. My buddy Dave and I started talking about my Cobalt, and when he said something about "why bother with the SS" and "whats the difference?" out of nowhere she started to answer. Holy shit it was hot.

Girls who know there way around cars always equals a plus in my book.
