Use M mode..manual is quite easy once you get use to it...just adjust the aperature and shutter speed and get the line in the middle in the view finer (lack of knowing technical terms haha). Thanks for the comments guys will be working on some more shots soon.
all i get is a black screen ive tried adjusting everything...i know it has to do with the shutter but i swore i adjusted that...lol.

Nice pics, i like the affect... only things that bothers me about #1 is the horizon is slightly tilted clockwise, and the peak of the roof is clipped.
#2 is almost perfectly symetrical which makes for a great image. Did you add any kind of burn/darkening around the edges of #2.
