SS axle vs. base axle What fits what??

hello,
I got a broken passenger axle shaft in a 06 ss/sc, and was basically just wondering if the base cobalt axles fit the SS, or do we have special, more "performance" built ones?

I highly doubt they'd work because we have different transmissions but I would also like to know....besides why would you want a base cobalt axle?

well some base axles were made for 4 lug setup, plus i doubt they are as strong as the ss axles, though the ss axles are still weak as hell, look at some aftermarket axles and youll be better off if you race at all. ss axles are brittle as hell.

I have seen axles from an ss and base side by side, and honestly, they look identical. I need to get my car running again, and can't find any ss ones. Dont care how weak they are, just want to get one on there. Can any one confirm this?
Will base cobalt axles bolt right up to the SS/SC?

If you use automatic cobalt axles maybe. The SS/SC has equal length axle shafts, designed to cut down on torque steer. Automatics has the same style of setup, being equal length. However because the SS/SC and base cobalts use different transmission and different hubs the problem you may run in to is the spline counts might be different at both ends of the shaft.

i cant verify this, but someone told me the base and the 2.0 use the same axles...this is a reason why the 2.0 breaks their axles so easily....they werent designed with that much power in mind. If you need new axles, i'd just go with stage 2 axles anyway...saves you the trouble of possibly changing them out again later

Anybody just try going to the dealership, get some part #'s and see if they match?
I'm also interested in knowing about better axles (in the future) for my 4 lug model (ie" spline and lenght the same???).
