Well I have already put 12,000 miles on my 05 SS S/C since I bought it in April of 05 . I can say I am happy overall with my purchase and I'd like to comment on a few problems that have been mentioned many times but I thought I'd write on how everything works after putting over 10,000 on it. I noticed all the complaints on the tranny problems and I guess I am lucky because my trans is holding up great (5sp manual). Of course I invested in the K&N Typhoon so I still have my CEL on. Lately after the K&N was installed my gas milage has gone to hell!!!! Maybe because of the CEL for the lean code so I'm waiting on GM to come up with something to fix it. No major problems have developed which is a great thing and I do drive like a maniac every day but I do keep up on routine maintance. My only major complaint is the damn rattles in the car - what in the hell! Maybe it is because the suspension is so tight but it is just unreal on how the car sounds like it is going to fall apart. I was almost forced to install an aftermarket stereo to cover up the sound as if I wasn't going to anyway. The exhaust is shaking itself apart to which is a common problem I hear but I'm not to worried because as soon as a descent exhaust is released it will be going on there.

Friday I will be taking it in for an oil change (Oil that I purchased) and I am going to have them put those updates on the PCM. I need to take it to work and have the tires rotated as well but I'm not paying for that lol.

All in all I am impressed with the Cobalt although it has it's flaws just like every other car on the market but the fun factor outweighs any problems so far. I think an exhaust and/or aftermarket system is a must in order to filter out the noises but other than that this car was a great investment.

Its really easy to get rid of the worst rattles. If you go into your trunk and look up into the part where the release for the seats are you'll see there is a space there and the rear liner hooks there. There is one clip on the right and one on the left. I put a little square piece of rubber between the metal clip and the body about a month ago, it makes a huge diffference. I don't think i have anything that rattles in it any more!!!!!

 

For being a first year car, it's problems are minimal.

I get rattles, but they can be fixed at home. (I also blame this on the stiff suspension)

I get cold start idle problem - need to take it to dealer eventually

Overall it's in good shape, I just hit 12k last week.

 

I gdt rattles just because it is winter with the stiff suspension but once the car gets warmed up, it is pretty much non existent. Besides I just turn the radio up

almost 15K miles now for me with nothing but few small cosmetic problems . ( new driver and passenger door panels , and bezels ) No mechanical probs yet and no CEL's for me . Chevypowerd mentioned the one rattle , the other biggie is the glove box . I simply tightened the screws on mine and that stopped it ,now my car is pretty much rattle free . GM proved me wrong , thats for sure . I wasnt to confident about the how well this car would hold up if it was driven hard ALOT . At 15K miles , I can say this car was built to take some crap .

The only part I hate about the car is creaky , incredibly slow , sounding like the motor is gonna die out while its opening sunroof . Sunroof technology was better than this in the 70's
