Good Shops in Calgary
Good Shops in Calgary
Are there any shops in Calgary comparable to Unique Auto or West Coast Customs? I’m looking to take my ride to a clean shop that will order the part and install it for me. Do we have anything like that here or do I have to tell MTV to pimp my ride??
those shops are for rich yuppies who have no idea about cars.
get in there and get your hands greasy
its the best way to learn
its far more rewarding when you do all your own modding,
instead of having someone else do it for you.
and if you dont know how, look around on the forum, theres hundreds of how-tos, and tons of people willing to help you DIY

Do you have any idea how much those shops charge to do an install??? If you want a really nice stereo install with fiberglass or carbon fiber, plan on spending upwards of $2000. If I was doing a trunk install, and if there was any fiberglass involved, I would never charge any less then $1000. Even then, that was usually for a buddy.
Keep in mind, with labor, you get what you pay for. If you try and bargain with them, you'll get a bargain install. If you give them an unlimited budget, you'll get a wicked install. Before you decide on any shop, make sure they have a good portfolio with lots of pics that you can look at. Talk to the installer that will be doing the work. If they don't have pics, or you can't talk to the installer, go somewhere else. To be quite honest, some of the nicest installs I've seen have been done by DIY.
I haven't done any custom stereo work in awhile (pay and hours were crap)... The last fiberglass project I got into was a picture frame with two interlocking hearts for my girlfriend. So... just to show that I can build stuff out of glass, and that I'm not just running my mouth off, here are a few pics:

Here's a before pic in the messy stage...

If you have any buddies that are good with this stuff, try and get them to help you and build it yourself. If you'd like, I can explain how to do it, but I'm just to busy to help myself.
Good luck!
all i really want is a sweet set of wheels and a lowering kit... i'm worried that if i do it myself, i'll end up messing things up
haha i do! and the worst show on TV is MTV pimp my ride! they take shitty cars and make them look retarded!

ya there's plenty of guys here in calgary that could do the lowering springs and such for ya but if you want to do any fabric type mods and aren't quite at the point to do it your self call CR Techniques they do awesome work when it comes to custom fabric work.
and i agree some of the best mods have been DIY
