Kumho Exsta any good?

Tire Rack Kumho Ecsta

Any one know if these tires are any good?
How well can you launch with them, does 225/45/18 fit our stock SS S/C wheels, and any one else recomend something else?
Thanks!

When i had my SS/SC, i had these tires but in a 215/45/18 - stock size. I loved mine. Very stable at a higher speed. Little bit of shoulder/sidewall flex but well within comfortable range. Tires start to get a little louder once you get some miles on them but again in an acceptable range. Never got to launch hard at the track with these ones on. I would imagine they would do pretty well. Overall, i would buy these tires again in a heartbeat.

Go with 225/40 it keeps closer to the stock size, thAts what i use. I have kumho ecstz spt for my auto cross tires and i love em. very affordable and long lasting while having a decent stick to them

the 225/40 will fit the stock wheels.

What is the diffrence from 45 to 40.
I'm new to tire ratings so it's a bit of a mess to me.
What rpm's have you launched with these tires?
I'm looking for a tire that I can hit 2700 to 3000 rpm to launch at once in a blue moon and have plenty of thread life.
Again thanks for the response hope to hear from ya.

the 40, 45, 50 is a percentage of the width, so if you increase the width, that 225 number you should decrease the sidewall percentage to keep the correct aspect ratio. Mine have great tread life and have launched pretty well. There are better tires but for the price these work great.

I have a SS/NA so I got Falken 225/45/17s

On dry road I launch around 2K and feather it, the old P6s would light up

I have only had them for a couple hundred miles so I can't tell you about tread life, but if you want tread life just go buy michelins and call it a day, because there is nothing that has a sticky to wear ratio like Michelins.

They have all size Falkens and ship really fast, personally I hate kumhos...

the ecsta's arent gonna be good for launching, only as good as the stockers in my opinion. i had these on my car, and they are awesome for the price, but cant expect much better 60's, and as the other people have already said, get 225/40 18s they fit the overall outside diameter much close to the stock tires.

Sounds good I'm definetly getting 225/40/18's now.

So which tire is good for occasional drag racing (Like once every three months) and has pretty good thread life (looking for at least 20,000 miles).

Again Thanks Guys!

Been researching just wanting to hear from people who have them. Thiers a diffrence between what a website says and what the real world says.

I really appreciate the help guys and steddy 2112 I read the post about feathering at 2K to launch and thats what I do with the stock tires right now, just wondering if I diffrent Falken tire was better. Can our cars not launch at a decent rpm at all?

I know a guy who lives around here and drives a Lazer Blue SS/SC who has some BFG Turds he calls them and says he launches at 4500 rpms. Of course he's gone thru 3 clutches
I'm looking for a 2600 to 3000 range.

I would do a wider search on the available tires in the same category, http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ireSearch=true

work your way from the top down for price vs performance

What he said, and really how old is the OP?

Just buy and try my friend!

And larger sizes will stick better no matter what...you can get a less sticky larger tire and it will hook better than a narrow sticky tire...food for thought

Great advice!
So the question is how wide can our stock tires go?

Edit: Woops, Sorry steddy didn't se your question I'm assuming OP means Original Pirellies and the anwser is I have 16k miles on them rotated once and the back tires look like slicks right now. The front has a good 1 -2k miles left.
And I think I found my tires. Thanks goes to Omimirage for the help!

ive always thought op meant original poster but anyways from what i know the ecstas are a good tire for what you pay...uncle has them on his vette....and Michelin's are a bit expensive but they are probably some of the best tires your going to come across.
