Subject: Check Engine Light On, DTCs P0171, P0300, P1174 Set (Perform Injector Test/Replace Injectors and Reprogram ECM, if Necessary) #08-06-04-001 - (01/02/2008)

Models: 2006-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR

2007 Pontiac G5, G6

2006-2007 Saturn ION

with 2.4L Engine (VIN B, P - RPO LE5)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition
Some customers may comment on the check engine light being illuminated.

A scan tool may reveal DTC P0171, P0300 or P1174 set as current or in history.

Cause
This condition may be caused by the plugging of one or more of the injector director plate orifices which results in a lean condition.

Correction
Important: This condition cannot be corrected by cleaning the injector(s).

Perform an injector balance test using the Active Fuel Injector Tester (AFIT), CH-47976. Refer to the Fuel Injector Diagnosis (w/CH47976) procedure in SI. If any injector is identified as having a lean condition, replace all four injectors with the revised injectors. After installing the new injectors, reprogram the ECM with updated calibration files using the TIS2WEB Service Programming System (SPS) application. There are two calibration part numbers that are valid for "Engine Operation". Select the part number with the description that reads for vehicles with second design injector. The injector has a dark blue overmold color for this repair.

Important: The fuel injectors must be replaced and the new calibration files must be installed to ensure a complete repair. Failure to perform both repairs will result in the customer returning with the same condition.

If a vehicle returns with the same condition after having this repair performed, the technician should first verify that the complete repair was performed before continuing with SI diagnostics.

I have 11 codes thrown (last time I scanned it), so I'm sure this is one of them, lol.

Most of them are air/fuel codes from my AEM CAI and my clogged fuel filter (which I'm replacing soon). I also know some of the codes are from my lack of a cat.

This makes me wonder about mine too. I've been throwing a godawful amount of codes that I thought were from my AEM intake

If the CEL went off you can still pick it up with the TECH 2 under the powertrain history DTC's section.

LOL , i hope that was a bad joke , i can't imagine GM would lock your ecm's with a fuel calibration . Alot of people have been having idle issues and random misfires with these cars so i'm guessing GM is addressing feedback from the dealers .

i had these codes as a 05 2.2 and cant get rid of them. dealer is tryin to fix problems. changed ignition module, o2 sensor, maf sensor, cleaned some shit, checked fuel lines and the lite came back and now they have it again and i told them to check/change fuel injectors and maybe new ecm cuz im gettin pissed. (this is a dealer where i go to a lot and know like everyone there so they treat me right and do what i ask n do it as warranty work as my car still has under 36000 miles and isnt 3 years old yet) hopefully they can get the damn thing to turn off but if not they will pass my emissions anyway, im just sick of that lil yellow/orange lite lol

I have 11 codes thrown (last time I scanned it), so I'm sure this is one of them, lol.

i had 9 and they were all fixed for about 18-19 miles lol now idk how many i have

had my dealership look into this for me and they typed in my car information and swaid it didnt apply to me??

I have an '07 2.4SS, so shouldnt it apply to me?

And yes, my check engine light is on. Last time I scanned= 11 codes. Some are from the lack of a cat, and some are from the AEM as well.

Get it scanned and post the codes , if any match the codes mentioned in the TSB then it would definitely apply to your car .

Thank you so Much, that is the TSB I have been looking for. I have been getting those codes for a while, and the dealer just updated my computer and sent me on my way. Then about 10 miles down the road the CEL came on again. I went to the dealer again the other day, and they said I had an injector problem that matched the TSB you posted. Now I just have to go back and have the parts installed, and can finally pass the state emissions test. Thanks

Good information. Thanks. I know this is an old thread. We have been dealing with this problem in my wifes. 2.4l SS for a long while. We took it into the dealership today and at first they said they were going to replace the FIs but after they did a "gas test" they are blaming it on bad gas. Said" there is 5% ethanol in the tank, you've been using E85." I said no all that has ever been in this car is Shell premium 93. Plus isn't 5% ethanol normal nowadays?

Threw 13 codes since last reset. The last time we took it in they said they reprogrammed the ECM. But according to this they have to replace the injectors too. Am I reading this correctly? Am I right in thinking that this particular dealership service center is just bullshitting. Plus they said it is recommended to "clean" the Throttle Body. I laughed at that said. I'll take care of that. I've never ever heard of a TB getting cleaned for $59. Glad my wife asked me about that. She didn't even know what the TB was.

Granted all my experience is with D- and B-Series engines with Honda, but come on, I'm not an idiot. Cars are all basically the same. Do you think we would be better served going to another Dealership? Or is this typical Chevy House treatment?

Hate to revive an old ass thread but my CEL just came on a while ago and I stopped by the dealer on my way home. P1174 was the code that triggered it, so I'm gonna print this info off and take it with me when I take the car in. I have an 07 2.4SS so hopefully this will be covered by something so I don't have to fork over my cash lol.
