FINALLY found myself a cobalt ss/sc.

Well, after a good year and a half of research, and getting screwed over on not ONE, but TWO cobalt ss/sc deals ( which i'll explain) I think i've finally found myself a winner, but before I describe the car, and ask a couble of questions, I'll tell you guys what happened with the others.

I live in WV, and went all the way to Maryland for the first Cobalt, when I got there, they wanted to finance me at 328/month for 75 months at 11% interest. The 328/month I can handle, for 75 months at that interest rate, not so much.

Next, I travelled up to PA. 17,5 For a cobalt ss/sc with 6,000 miles and g85, I think, Hell Yes! This is my car. I get to the dealership, everything works out, and i'm ready to go for a test drive. I'm under 21, so the dealer has to drive, and even with HIM driving, I can tell this car's tranny is FUCKED, like, no way in hell someone took it easy on this car, it's a lemon. Then, I look in the trunk, and what do I find? Not Carpet, a Cargo Net and A pioneer subwoofer, no. I find a bare metal truck with raw fibgerglass resin spilled EVERYwhere, even on the seat. Needless to say, that deal didn't work out.

The next deal, that wasn't a cobalt, but was too good to pass up, was an 04 SRT4 for 12 grand. I call the dealership a week ahead of time, we do dealing over the phone, I have an appointment to SIGN THE PAPERS on the car on Saturday, and when I call that morning to confirm my appointment, they inform me they sold the car the night before, out from under me.

Now for the good part.
An 06 Cobalt SS/SC That is pretty much mine My dad and I went to the dealership yesterday, and we're going tomorrow to sign the papers on it, because altough we couldnt work things out in person at the dealer, the salesman called later yesterday evening and said he'd accept our counteroffer. Now question time. Do dealerships do suspension alignment? The dealer is throwing in 4 new pirellis, because the 4 tires on there now are bald.. on the INSIDE walls. The wear shows signs of a lowered car with no alignment, but the car is at stock height, from what I can tell... what do you all think? Here are some pictures of my soon to be car.

Hmmm.... Total guess here.. but I bet it's been driven pretty hard. The wear on the tires and the CAI give that one away... Have you driven this one??

It was probably lowered and the owner put the stock springs back on to sell it.
Either way good find, and welcome!

not necessarily, if it was slammed, the tires would wear that way upon normal driving

Those perellis wear pretty fast. Atleast for me they did. I had to replace mine after about a year and a half. I by no means beat on my car..... Im way to paranoid to do that lol.

Pirelli's wear hella fast, less than 25,000km on my 06 Cobalt SS/SC and my tires are at about 30% tread and i very rarely do aggresive launches as i'm to paranoid about axles / tires and wrecking my car :p speeding on the otherhand...... lol

Let's not be naive. Any SS/SC is going to be driven hard.

I definetly would not buy a modded car. Especially with a mod still on it, even though its an intake, who knows what else could have been done to it...

dude - your best approach to a new (used) car is to buy from a individual - perhaps original owner.... not from a dealer. granted, there are perhaps some new car dealers wanting to unload some car that 's been on the lot for 3+ months, rather than take it to auction... but in general your best and most reputable deal is going to come from some - about to be - former - cobalt ss owner. Perhaps the exception is some GM certified vehicle, however even their you can get screwed. Also - carfax and other - that type of research is absolutely essential (as mentioned above). A reputable Chevy dealer is probably (my guess) looking to pay you 10-11k$ on a 30Kmi miles 06 SS/SC trade in, then inspect and service to standards, sell for about 16K$.

Congratulations for being smart enough to walk away from the previous rip-offs. Looks like you have another here.

Any used car dealer that has a car on the lot with bald tires (as you describe) is a dealer that I would - run - not walk away from. I live in md and I can explain my experience with you - via pm If you're interested. I definitely would not buy a modded car. Exception is where you can go over everything with the kid the did the modding.

Thanks for all the replies guys! As for the mods, i'm almost DAMN sure that the CAI is the only mod, because it still has the stock air box in the back, in the Injen Box. The car has the original perellis, and after 27K miles, they should definitely be wearing out by now, regardless of how it was driven, and Rukkee, this is Ririck from over at .com, so you've already gotten me the service history, thanks buddy. haha... and for everyone else, what the service record showed was a brand new tranny at 2400 miles.

That could just have easily been a lemon transmission.

Honestly you can be taking a gamble buying a used Corolla so who freaking cares? ANY car can be beaten on...ANY car can be redlined, ANY car can be made to do a burnout. And I'd say 99.9% of all cars out there have seen all 3 at least once in their lives.
Its still warrantied, so if anything messes up its covered, other than the clutch...the only thing I would really be concerned about would be a small aftermarket pulley, and clutch slippage. The tires wouldn't bother me, because I'd almost guarantee its cause it was lowered at one point...that didn't hurt anything but the tires, and they are replacing them....so who cares?? I say go for it!!

Well the tranny's been in it for 23K miles now so i wouldn't worry about it unless it gave you some issue's during the test drive . My stock pirelli's were toast at around 15K so that wouldn't bother me either. And you still have this

60/60000 POWERTRAIN - U.S. LIMITED WARRANTY 09/30/2005 83 miles 09/30/2010 60083 miles

IMO There is a difference between beating on a car and driving it hard.

Like everyone else said, any sports car is going to be driven hard. Even those of us who baby our cars can't resist laying the pedal down every now and then haha
But good job not rushing into the other two. I also looked at two other 'balts before I got mine. It's worth waiting to find something that's really nice and well kept. Overall, the car sounds like a good buy and I say go for it. The tire wear is only natural and you still have the balance of the warranty if anything goes wrong with the tranny or anything else. Let us know what you do!!!

Word. If he's got an intake, that meant he wanted to go fast. Going fast= driving it hard. Plus, pre-modded cars are usually not the way to go. There was a laser blue SS/SC for sale out here in Warrenton VA for like $17,000 at Country Chevrolet (where I bought my car). I'm not sure if its still there or not, but I'll check tonight and let you know if it is.
