I just did a google for "california autocross" and came up with:
http://www.solo2.com/
Also the SCCA site is the central point of info.

Check out www.nasaproracing.com and look under the HPDE section. I did 2 weekend track days with them last summerand had a blast with my SS. Check it out
as the other guys mentioned autox is probly the best place to dive in. low cost, low danger to you and the car, great community of people(probly the reason i like it so much), and the techniques you'll learn can save your ass. it's all about car control on the limit

I know about this because there is a blue SS/SC that has yellow vinyl lettering along the side body kit to advertise that drives all over the Wasatch Front. It looks fun and I hope to find some time to do this.

is there any racing you could get into and make a little cash eventually. If I had a 350hp track-ready cobalt (would have to look into the safety gear i.e. roll-cage) is there ways to make some money? in autocross or something else???
It's hard to make money in racing. The typical quote goes like this "How to make 1 million in racing, start with 5 million."
If GM comes around and starts supporting the Cobalt at the track. If Heinricy is serious, maybe we'll see some money come into supporting grassroots racing like a Cobalt Cup or something.
Anyway, do it for fun, do it for you first. If you are in Texas try www.thedriversedge.net. Good group and car's are welcome, HPDEs at multiple tracks and the 8-session weekend event is only $295, spots sell out fast so first come first serve.

click on SOLO
there, you will lfind a PDF for the stock class categories, as well as the RULE BOOK for classing your car in the various classes...
Judging by the mods you have listed in your sig... You'd be put in STX... BUT that would depend on if you have emods not listed.
Autocross ( solo2 ) is the best way to get your feet wet as other stated... best thing I've done with a car of mine ever...
All you need is a helmet ( and some regions provide loaners... ) and pass the tech inpsection ( for safety ) and you're ready to go.
Any other questions about it... just let us know.
There's a few avid conekillers here...

Now, if we can only get them to change a few words around in the TSB regarding the knuckles....
Ironically enough, last year, at the SCCA Solo National Championship and the Club Racing Runoff, the GM Performance Division not only had a presence there, but I would say came in full force. The GMPD folks brought an 18-wheel rig full of technical goodies. GM competitors had access to factory engineers and documentation as well as free on site wheel alignments, technical support with engineers; not to mention the freebie swag they gave away.

Not to mention they showed me how easy it is to run the diagnostic with their handhelds..
I've been talking to a few and the verdict is still officially out on if they're going to be there again, but siad that the feedback was all positive.
Have to contact them again....
Maybe this year, I won't be the only cobalt competing....
Yes... I was one of those guys that took full advantage of what GMPD was offereing... got the car wieghed, corener-weighted, and a free alignment.. PLUS the swag..
