Hard to say, all depends on what kind of HP #'s hes putting down. GTI's with mods get back, but stock they are incredibly slow. So who knows, Drivers race?

I can tell you, with my magnaflow, I raced a 1.8t gti with 3 inch turboback, chip, and intake and I had a hard time beating him. He was runing on stock psi too. I beat him by like half a car length. However, if you get the launch, you MIGHT have a chance. But in all honesty, I think he has the faster car.

See what year he has. A new GTI puts out 170-180 hp and is 0-60 in 6.5 they gain alot fomr a downpipe and exhaust. I bet it would be a close race

I also raced my friends 1.8t. He has a 3 inch catback. He started off in 1st gear at around 25, I started in 2nd. I killed him. Put buslengths on him. He was a bit dissapointed lol.

Race him, just don't put anything on it, and be open to the outcome. Win or lose it should be fun.

GTI's are slow MMM K....

Seriously I raced a stock one and blew its doors off, buslengths sounds about right, so if its modded well then he may give oyu a run but minor upgrades arnt going to do anything. I dont know what year the one I raced was, but I even had a passenger and the outcome for him was a shame.

I raced a modded (newer 200x) 1.8T with a loud BOV and exhaust...

He jumped the light and spun the tires in first...

caught him around ~75.... neck and neck by ~90 walked as I went into 4th...

So I would say do it... What Berkley Hieghts? NJ?

I live in NJ

If he wasn't running 20 psi, you would take him easily, but that 20 psi has to help somewhat because don't they run around 14 stock?

I doubt that GTi is running 20Psi on stock internals. They run 9Psi out of the factory. How do i know you ask? Easy my buddy owns one. Its a 2002. He says its the worst car hes ever had. It took him about 2G's to get it as a 14 sec car.

Cobalt would kill his car

its going to be a driver's race. and BOV's don't generate power they just help efficiency so don't be afraid of loud noises. and good luck to him running 20 psi, maybe at peak (or with boost spike) but for any duration across the power band he'd be doing serious damage to the internals, can't be good.

technically a bov on a 20v engine ( the 1.8t) will slow the spool up

thats why alot of 20v people run diverter valves

The kid that I raced with the gti with ecu, 3" turbo back, and intake was pretty hard for me to beat. It was all done and tuned by the company Vanity Works I belive. So even though he only had 3 mods, they were all done correctly. When he raced my friends srt4 acr, they were neck and neck. Then he wanted to race me. I was like crap, he's gonig to beat me. But my little ss/sc with exhaust happened to inch away from him
