Question fact or fiction..

Ok this is regarding gas milage of sorts..

Do you use more gas if you are running example: your stereo pretty loud, interior fan on say 2, headlights??? Esspecially if your using all of them at once. I can see gas milage being bad cause thats what they say when you use your air conditioning during the summer months..

Second: do you find your car gets better gas milage when you put the pedal down? I've done that and the damn gas needle does'nt move at all yet when I drive gentle she sucks back more fuel..

Yes electrical accesories will cause more load on the alternator, it wont be huge however. The AC uses a compressor to drive the system, this is what causes more power draw than your typical electrical accessories

No, if you "put the pedal down" you will not get better mileage, it an easily proven fact. If your car is the opposite, there is something wrong...

ok first of all....the reason the A/C sucks gas is because it runs off the same belt as the rest of your engine (same reason it drains HP..) the lights/Fan/Stereo are all electric, and so shouldn't affect gas mileage at all. As far as getting better gas mileage when you put the pedal down...you mean like run WOT all the time? that would make your mileage go down FAST. lol

yeah but the mileage difference is going to be nearly invisible not? unless you're running some kinda crazy stereo or something?

Ya I'm very serious about getting good gas milage when I put the pedal down but here's the thing I'm not hauling ass for long periods of time.. Now obviously on the highway at high speeds I do get bad gas milage.. I should be more clear that when I launch hard my gas gauge shows little or no movement even when I was at the track for the first time.

i drive a lot. i almost alwasy have my lights on, drive 5-10 over speed limit, blare the radie and have heat on 2 (3 degrees this morning! wtf!) and i'm getting about 30mpg. therefore, fiction on that point.

a/c will lower your gas mileage and hp as stated above. you can prove it to yourself. when driving around with your a/c on just jump on it a little and turn your a/c off and you should notice a subtle boost.

Any electrical equipment will not affect gas mileage. Your alternator is what powers everything electrical and it is constantly running whenever the car is on.

A/C will because the compressor is turned on only when the A/C is in use.

if you brake less, then flooring it will get better MPG....but thats due to braking less.

i ran a test where i floored it from every stop (getting to the speed limit sooner, increasing actual distance thatwas driven under idling conditions), and coasted as much as humanly possible, braking as little as possible, and then a later run babying the car the whole ride (all trials were trips to work using the same route). the MPG was the same every time.

i know what you mean... about the gas needle not moving, i seem to notice that when i go back and forth from NC and VA if i do about 75 i can get way fartheron a tank of gas... about 5 hours on a little more than 1/2 tank so i thinks is more about finding that speed that give you the best MPG
