ZZP midlength header/dp FIRST IMPRESSIONS~!

EDIT** Videos can be seen here - https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/pictures-videos-64/videos-my-new-exhaust-flyby-93824/

Like I always do after a mod, I am going to let everyone know my first impressions. Today I had my ZZP Midlength Header/3" Catless DP installed. Another member here Ben aka Boostn07 had the same set up put on his car today also. It took about 40 min to take off the old exhaust and install the new exhaust on my car. Keep in mind we were in a GM shop with a lift and all the tools we needed right in front of us.

When I first fired up the car the idle was a bit louder. Nothing drastic, the exhaust note sounds slightly more loped now (as if I had a cam). Upon taking the car for a drive, the exhaust note is deff louder. It goes without saying that the car is LOUD at WOT but to my suprise it is NOT raspy. The exhaust sounds exactly like it did with just the GMPP sport cat-back but now it is 2 times louder.

For those of you who have the ZZP setup, I know alot of you say it sounds like you have a leak and I can tell you that it is the flex pipe making that sound. You dont have a leak, the felxpipe is just noisey.(Just like my catless 3" DP from zzp was on my GTP) We put my car back up on the lift after starting it because I thought I heard a leak but we could not find a leak anywhere and narrowed down the noise to the flexpipe.

I know someone was saying that they had a friend with the ZZP header/3" catless DP/ GMPP cat-back and they said that the car jerked at WOT shifts and they thought it was because of the DP. I have not noticed anything like this at all, the power seems to be smooth.

I am sorry to say that I cant notice any power gains because of the weather. Right now my car cant go WOT at under 60 without lighting up the tires due to the cold roads. I got on it a bit in 3rd gear but I wasnt paying attention to the power, I was just listening to the sound and making sure everything was ok. We are supposed to get a warm up here in a day or so and I will let everyone know what I think when I can get on it a bit more.

If anyone has any questions about anything at all just ask, I will do my best to answer!

PICS**

Mike

No worries, I think this wouldnt be a problem with a floor jack and some jack stands. It will take a bit longer and a few more swear words but you shouldnt have too much of a problem.

Sorry I didnt state that in the first post. I got the high temp paited header and non stainless DP with no bung for a wideband. I dont drive much in the winter so I am not worried about rusting and I didnt feel the extra 120$ was worth the ceramic coating. I do have pics, give me one sec to hunt them down.

I have no plans for a 3" cat-back at this time, I may go with a 2.5" but I am still unsure.

I went with 1.75" primaries,

I do throw a code and I will be deleting it with HP tuners in the near future.

You may be right but we could not find a leak anywhere in the system. The only place we heard the noise was when you put your ear next to the flex pipe. I will however retorque my bolts after a bit of driving to see if it goes away. The only reason I didnt think it was a leak was because all I installed on my GTP was a 3" ZZP catless DP and it made the same sound.

we might very well be talking about a different sound then.

but yeah id suggest retorquing after it all settles in anyway.

I think the noise that he is discribing is just extra noise from the header and dp because there is more air flow.

Thanks for the suggestion tho man, I will deff go ahead and retorque the bolts in the near future. Question, is the sound your thinking of a leak from the DP or header? A leak from the header on motor side would be pretty damn noticeable correct?

i had a very small one that was only noticable at certain rpms.
and was a very quiet tick. almost like when a rock gets stuck in your tire.

Alrighty thanks! Thats not the noise I am hearing.

When I first put the exhaust on, I drove it right outside to sit and idle because I knew it would smoke a bit while it burned off what ever it is new exhaust burns off. I got under the car and had someone tap the throttle a few times to look for any puffs of smoke comming from the DP and header connections and I didnt see any myself. The mechanic also said he couldnt find any leaks when he looked it over on the lift. But we are all humans so we could have very well made a mistake. I will have to keep a close eye and ear on it.

you wont see them.
best way is to put your hand around the flanges, youll feel very slight puffs.

be careful though, it heats up fast.

ok thanks...from what i understand you have a 3" for a 2.5 catback..a 3 in that bolts directly to 3" catback with no step down, and a weld in exit...whatever that is
