View Full Version : FINALLY! going to the track
Alright fellas, I'm finally going to the track today! It's perfectly sunny, and the weather is nice @ around 45-50 degrees F w/ slightly NWerdly winds. I will be debuting my driver mod stage 3. LOL jk.
Oh yes there will be a video! :twothumbs
helty 12-11-2005, 12:24 PM Good luck man! lets see some mid to low 14's :twothumbs
Good luck man! lets see some mid to low 14's :twothumbs
Thanks man! This will be my first time going and not being in my mustang, so I'm sure my times will suck lol, but hey, I'm confident! My goal will be a 14.5 lol!
helty 12-11-2005, 12:35 PM you've been to the track before, so im sure you dont need tips......but anyway...
my first time out i ran a 12.3 1000ft. my second time to the track i ran an 11.6 on my first pass. take it easy the first few times before you give it hell. again, good luck man.
Cobalt_Supercharged 12-11-2005, 12:41 PM Sweet, now we can get some actual numbers for you, not just videos that the SRT guys say are rigged. Good luck.
I did alright, my first run was a frkn 16 flat, spinning all the way through 2nd. The second run was a 14.6, third run was a 15.0 against a Yellow SS (he also has run a 14.2 in his SS on a previous night, showed me the slip). I was going to leave, but my friend w/ his SRT-4 wanted to stay so I decided to let the car cool down.....Then I got my best time, a 14.1 launching @ 1.5k rpms w/ a 2.0! 60ft! (dropped my tire pressure to 23lbs). My last run was a 14.6 :( I missed third gear.
Here's my best run:

Also, I got my car weighed in. With me in it it was 3010lbs, I'm 245lbs, and that was on an empty tank...The interesting thing is my buddy weighed in his SRT-4 on an empty tank, he's shorter than I am and weighs a little less....came out to 3040lbs....so I dunno about this mumbo jumbo about our cars being heavier.
SwizzDSMSS 12-12-2005, 01:30 AM Nice man. Really nice.
Thanks man, I did better than I was hoping for...but still wanted to get a 13.9...
practice makes perfect!
ralliartist 12-12-2005, 02:16 AM congrats on your new best. that's pretty quick! but one thing, your times are very inconsistent. i bet it is the launch. you definitely need to try to keep doing the same thing over and over again. with a 14.1 you should at least be consistently in the low 14s. 14.2/14.3 over and over again would be nice. just a thought!

Yeah exactly, I tried several different launching methods. from 2.5-3k easing off the clutch, to going off idle, and finally 1.5k which worked out the best for me. Also, I tried power-shifting and then just "normal" shifting. Power-shifting definitely helped out.
ralliartist 12-12-2005, 02:51 AM sounds like your 1500 rpm miracle launch and the powershifting is a good method. stick with it. :twothumbs
another thing to consider. i always do a base line for the night. not a shitty run, just not giving the car it's all. i'll launch pretty decent and then not power shift. that's just to get a baseline for the night and then improve upon that.
Omgosh, sorry this is off topic...but there was a Subaru Forester...I have no idea what he had done to it...but he had paper plates and he ran a 14 flat....ridiculous.
ralliartist 12-12-2005, 02:57 AM DAMN!!! that's pretty damn quick! you should find out if it's modded. i would think so.
DC52NV 12-12-2005, 03:04 AM sweet time man. it's always great to hear people going to the track. :)
cvenom2122 12-12-2005, 03:30 AM Awesome tofu man, what mods you got done? I think you had them in your sig before, but they gone :(
wasey13 12-12-2005, 04:57 AM Omgosh, sorry this is off topic...but there was a Subaru Forester...I have no idea what he had done to it...but he had paper plates and he ran a 14 flat....ridiculous.
He was probably stock. They only weigh 100-200lbs.(depending on model) more then the WRX with the same drivetrain.
ballerSS 12-12-2005, 08:46 AM Way to go Tofu! Great time!
Last I remember your mods were K&N intake and Strut Bar. Other than that are you stock? Oh, do you have the LSD?
Once again great job, I think that's the best 60' I've seen on stock rubber.
Cobalt_Supercharged 12-12-2005, 08:53 PM Congrats. That is an awesome time!
What options does your car have? Sunroof, xm, side airbags? These add weight, that's why I'm asking.
Thanks guys, I don't have XM, the G85 package, side airbags (I think?) or a sun-roof. The Yellow SS that was out there has run a 14.2 w/ the sunroof and XM package however!

Lol, it was nuts, I almost crapped myself when I saw that. So they come w/ the turbocharged, boxer motor too?
impressive tofu, wicked sig BTW

Yes and AWD.

The '06 WRX's got the 2.5L like the STi, but the Forrester 2.5XT has had it for a couple years. The early ones had only "210hp", but were capable of 13.7's with great driving even with the weight of a wagon. Truth is, they certainly had more power than the 2.0L 227hp hp WRX of the same years.
Sweet cars... one of the best sleepers around. The last few years they were kinda aggressive looking, for a wagon, with the hood scoop and the dark "angry" looking headlights, but for some reason, they went totally wimpy with the new facelift.
Old (w/ STi Hood Scoop)... looks like it will eat you and store your remains in the hatch

BTW, nice times. You should do a how to on how you launched that thing since it seems most people are lucky to get 2.3 60's with the SS so far.

that's funny. maybe they just wanted it nore family oriented! lol.
Hot Carls R/T 12-13-2005, 09:52 AM Nice time man! How in the world did you get a 2.0 60ft? I thought you were running a slick or drag radial? I didn't know the stock Pirelles could hand that good of a launch? I ran a 14.30@99.89mph with a 2.2 60ft. but the tire pressure was a 35psi....What is the best psi for the stock tires too run at when drag racing? Colin :ca: :twothumbs

I lowered my tire pressure down to around 23-25lbs, which is my guess to the slow trap speed (I had a higher trap speed on my 14.6 run than my 14.1 run). As far as the 2.0 60ft, I wrote a write-up on how I launched...but even then, it'll be hard to duplicate it....my runs were pretty inconsistant that whole night.
sneaky 12-13-2005, 07:37 PM Impressive, I can't wait till next year.

Better traction usually results in worse trap speed, anyway. I mean, unless you're just sitting there smoking the tires, switching to DR's or slicks generally lowers your ET and your Trap.
Again, nice run.... and great driving.
RedBaseBolt 12-13-2005, 08:31 PM looking forward to my car breaking into the 15s next year, lol
NJBLUESS 12-13-2005, 11:31 PM Tofu, congrates on the times :twothumbs That is what I like to see. Your launch RPM of 1500 is right on, taking off as if from a normal stop, engaging the clutch completly and giving enough thottle to balance traction on the line before breaking the wheels loose, is the way to go. I have even impressed myself with this type of launch. The lower tire pressures are also another ingedient to traction. Lower the fronts, as you did to the mid 20's, but keep the rears on the high side.
As far as those Forrester 2.5XT's, a guy I work with has one. I drove it shortly once and was impressed with it. He did run it at the track awhile ago with a 15.3, it was also his first time, but he ousted another co-worker with his Rouche Mustang GT by 2 tenths. Sooner or later the Forrester and my SS/SC will run, but for now it's fun busting on each other on who's faster.

No offense, but both of your co-workers are disgustingly bad drivers if they ran 15.3 and 15.5.... maybe that was a typo and you meant 14.3 and 14.5.
But just for a little comparison, my slower than stock '00 Mustang V6 went 15.5 my first time to the track with a crappy 2.331 60'.

You are right! They are not so good, so no offense to me. The times are correct, no typo.

Wow... that's all I have to say about that.
... and that's a 99-04 V8 Roush, right?.... because that would be an OK time for a V6 Roush :)
YellowSS05 12-18-2005, 11:48 PM just wondering when the 14.1 took place? im the yellow ss that was up there that night
just curious

Hey what's up man? We ended up staying until closing time that night (the guy w/ the SRT-4 wanted to stay). My 14.1 run was after you and I ran that last time, I let the car cool off for awhile (about 15-20 min) before going back into the staging lanes. The guy in the SRT-4 also hit a 14.1 just before me lol. You should post up that 14.2 slip man, didn't you cut a 2.0 60ft too?? :cssNET:
SS4ME 12-19-2005, 04:30 PM What do you have done that you hit a 14.1?!! Very nice!! :twothumbs
YellowSS05 12-19-2005, 09:37 PM scanner is messed up ill scan the slip when i get it fixed
