My friend's dad has a 2005(?) 350Z convertible (automatic) and he was looking at my car the other day and said something along the lines of "too bad you'll still lose to my Z". My car is stock and I'm sure it would be a close race, but he would probably win. Anyone know stock for stock who would have an edge? Also, I'm probably getting my Stage 2 in the late spring or early summer. I would think I should definitely be able to beat him then. Yes? No? Just wondering....

It should be close if you can drive.

every time i drive my friends 2006 g35 6 spd, i am highly dissapointed. it drives nice and i would love to have the car. but i think its slow. with my mods i destroy them, im not sure about you tho.

Jigyflyuk07 is talking about me. This was from a dig and when i was stock. This 350z also had AT LEAST an exhaust because it sounded mean. He pulled maybe a car on me.

My mom owns a G35 and when I do drive it, it has a LOT of low end torque compared to the cobalt but I honestly believe from a roll they are not faster then a cobalt. Now from a dig....their vdc system is pretty good at keeping you from spinning.

But good god they handle like a dream!

Thanks guys, that's about what I figured. I'll just wait for the mods and then it looks like I'll have a real good shot.

Try it stock and see how it goes first. You'll be suprised, but in the good kind of way. :thumb:

^^I would do that, and then once you get your mods you can show that your less expensive car can run and beat a 350

a stage 2 will be faster than a g35

guys you are grouping up the Z's all together. first off its an 05, they dont have the same power as the new ones. 2nd, its vert, way heavier. 3rd, its an auto, which decreases its HP more so thant he standard. granted if you go from a dig its a much easier car to launch, but any kind of roll and i think you would hang nicely, if not win.

practice your launch and you should have a shot

You can't really know how fast a car is from a test drive. Every car feels alot different from each other and "feeling" fast doesn't mean it is. I can only tell you from my experiances:

When I was stock I have beat stock 350s. Then again I ran a 14.2 @ 100mph 1/4th stock so that could have something to do with it. Most SS/SCs run 14.4s-14.7s stock. With my current mods, I have not run into a 350Z that can hang with me, modded or not. A auto will be quick off the line and have a great 60" time. I would expect the 350Z auto to pull right from 1st gear, and lead all the way to the bottom of 3erd. If your lucky and drive perfect you could pull even in low 3erd and slowly roll ahead by 100-110mph. Converts are also heavier from what I understand. Btw, most of my kills on modded 350Zs were not from a dig but from our infamous 30-40 roll.

Awesome guys, more good info.

I was figuring I'd have a shot b/c (as hatrickstu said), his is a auto/vert which is slower/heavier. We'll see...

Just watch out for their low end torque. It's pretty vicious in the VQ35DE engine.

I think in this situation the auto tranny might play a possible difference. I ran against a manual 350z all season last year. i was 1/2 second slower. however, i didn't break out big in one event and he wasn't catching me. i had to sandbag to try and save the race, but didn't do it soon enough. i still broke out by 1/10th.

okay this is from experience. i beat a 06 350z roadster auto with test pipes only and on 20" with a light system and i got him by like 2 cars, with me having only intake an exhaust. then i raced a 06 6 speed with intake and exhaust and other light stuff he got me by like a car and a half. with stage two and 2.9 youll eat him

His Z is stock as is my Cobalt for now. My feeling is that as of now stock for stock, he would have the edge from a dig because I've only had the car a few weeks and I'm still perfecting launching it (tips?), but from 30 or 40, I think I might have the edge.

An auto convertable Z will be a good race, with him winning in the end. Stage 2 and you should just edge him out.

If you really want to win, gut your car before you race. You may just get it then.

I'd say try it and see :) Versus a stock auto 2005 Z roadster it will be a decent race. I ran an 06 Z coupe the first week I got my car. I was stock at the time and the race was dead even from a 40ish roll to about 90 then he started to pull slightly.

No dyno numbers sorry. The Cobalt is my daily driver so I honestly don't care that much to have it dynoed. My Cavy is the fast car :)

I did run the car once last season at the track and managed a shitty time of like 14.4 because of serious traction issues. The car did trap 111.78mph though.

The mods used to be in my sig but not sure what's going on with that now... Anyways the car has a TONNN done to it. HPTuners, 2.5" pulley, 60# injectors, header, 3" catless dp, 3" exhaust, ported blower, 88mm tb, intake, progressive meth injection, front mount H/E, gm dual pass IC, and so on...

You should be able to take him. Last year I raced a 350z with exhaust and intake 6spd I believe he said it was an 06 and beat him by about 3 cars. I had stage 2 at the time though and the GMPP exhaust. Maybe he was a shitty driver I don't know.

My friends dad has a 06 G35 sport, its got the same engine as a Z but his is an automatic. from a 40 mph launch i ate him alive, and he has sport shift. The only advantage the Z will get on you is the start, because it is rwd. If you race from a rolling start and have decent R's on you launch your boost will take over and over take the 2 cylinders the 3.5 has over you. Keep in mind i have a stock 06 SS/SC.

I ran a track model or whatever the one is with Brembo brakes and the bigger rims and I beat him on the highway from a 50 or 60 roll the first week I had my car. I also ran a s2000 from the same roll beat him also. BOth were 6 spd's. I'm also stock.
