Synthetic Oil for LS

I'm thinking of switching to Mobil 1 Syntec, anyone who has a 2.2 what kind of improvements have you seen?

You won't really feel an improvement per say. It might gain you a couple of horsepower, but nothing noticeable due to the improved lubrication. It is more of a longevity thing. Better oil lubiricates better and reduces heat. Less heat let the motor live longer. Just keep in mind that once you switch to full synthetic, you can never go back to conventional.

Not true. Going from conventional to fully synthetic will increase your wheel hp, but not very much.

I wasn't looking for horsepower, iw as talking about maybe since the engine will have better lube, it might run more quite, or maybe my engine temp would be lower

Your engine temps will be a little lower, but not much. Maybe 5 degrees, but every little bit helps.

Go to Walmart... buy some Mobil 1 for a good price. (around here 5 quart container is like $23.) When I switched to synthetic I think the car felt a little smoother, but not necessarily more powerful. It could all be in my head though. Scientifically it is proven that Synthetic lubricates better which means better longevity for the motor.

i use a full synthetic motor oil and have since my first oil change, most of the time you wont notice a power increase, but occasionally in some cars you might be able the feel smoother acceleration smoother/firmer shifts. everything just seems to run a bit better, i recommend using synthetic oil in all cars, not that much extra to pay for and your doing your car a great service. Another good thing to do is at time of oil change add some fuel additives/cleaners (for your valves and whatnot). i use shells brand V-Power, keeps everything clean and im hoping my car will last a bit longer with the way that i drive.

I have been using castrol syntec for 2 years now and if you rev your engine hard everyday like I do then you should use a full synthetic
Your engine will last longer and run a little smoother overall
Got 1 hp increase according to my G-Tech Pro SS

i use royal purple and i did feel a difference in acceleration and smoothness, and car felt way better at startup.. i also use royal purple coolant additive, droped my temps pretty nicely..

i never used mobile 1.. but from my experience it did make quite a impact on my car.. it aint a huge difference, but i did notice it the first startup.

that's such an old myth. that's up there with the octane booster that will take a second off your 1/4 time in a stock 89 civic.

you can go back and forth all you want. you will not feel a difference in acceleration or most likely anything else. i don't care what anybody says, but nobody can tell me that they can really feel a difference between 125 and 126 hp

cudn't have said it better. i've been running with synthetic since i believe 3k on the car. What u'll gain is smoother ride, less oil changes (its stays alot cleaner), and ur car will die with like 298,000 on it. Its only good if u use it early in the cars life.

I've been using synthetic since the first 500 kms.

I now have over 155, 000 kms on my motor and it still runs great.

You dont need synthetic on a 2.2, but its obviously a better oil.

It wont give you any performance gains. except your wallet will be lighter, so you might go a bit faster.

It helps your suspension too? I can see it might help with the "butt dyno", otherwise, no.

I hope not! I had 318,000 miles on the last new car I bought before some kid totaled it. I'd still be driving it otherwise.

im sure what he meant by smooth ride is that of engine smoothness. just feels better under the hood.

im sorry but i refuse to believe that there is any possible way to tell difference from changing your oil. im not tryin to start anything but how can you feel a difference betwen oil. thats like saying your car fells faster because you washed it. less dirt=less drag. i always assumed the difference in convetional and synthetic is prolonged engine life. not more hp. untill i see evidence of a before and after i have to say i dont believe it at all....

not tryin to be a dick, just my opinion guys....

seriously how many people are really gonna think they can feel a difference when they switch oils. there MIGHT be a difference of one horsepower. you will feel NO difference. you MAY have better longevity because of less thermal breakdown and better lubrication. that is all.
