It's got an oil tester in the motor that takes samples every five minutes. You must need to change it again.LoL

Ignition on, gas pedal to the floor 3 times. done.

That oil life meter is so freaking useless. Does it just count down from 7k miles or something?

no it supposeddly calculates distance driven rpm's speed all that. i dont really care for it. if you want your car to last change the oil every 3000-5000 miles.

talking about oil change.... you say about every 3-5k.... I change mine when it says to do so... now that I am going stage2 (tonight i get the car back) I have asked to change the oil so it is nice and sweet.. then I will change the oil at something like 25% instead of 10-15% as indicated by the DIC (LOL)

Just like the world is flat right??? Change the oil when it gets down to 10% like the manual says!!! The system isn't in place just for the hell of it,GM has done extensive research to make sure that it is accurate.

wait till 10%...yeahhhh okay.

so you could wait for every 7k miles to change it (which is roughly 10%) or wait every 3-5k miles...which is better. changing your oil when you know you should every 3-5k to improve the lifespan or your engine or changing your oil when its low and the DIC says 10%

i say you be the judge.

i like to play it safe IMO.

I agree with you, I change my oil every 3k miles, and I use Royal Purple, I let my self be the judge, not my car.

There's no need to change it every 3k with synthetic. The oil doesn't even BEGIN to break down until around the 15,000-18,000 mile mark (tests have been done on this). If anything do what I do, change the filter every 3-5k and change the oil when the car tells you to. Or you can waste your money and change it every 3k and give me your 3k mile old oil for free to put into my car.

The oil may not break down, but it does get dirty as hell. You go ahead and change your oil every 15k miles, and I'll stick to my 3k routine that I've been doing on all my cars for years...

Also, "stick to the manual" is pretty bogus advice... it also says to cross-rotate radial tires...

I need to learn something. What is it with cross rotating or not cross rotating radial tires?

as for oil. I used to have au Audi S3 (not imported in the USA). The first service was at 15k miles and the following ones would be at 10k. the reason being that the special oil they would use did not need to be changed that often. but the oil cost $20/ quart of a gallon.

I guess I will do my oil change myself and do it every 5k at max. Any good oil you are using????

Oil gets "dirty" 5 minutes after you start your car. Technically oil does not get any dirtier at 10,000 then it does at 500 miles. The problem you run into is the oil filter. The oil filter will only hold so much then it can no longer filter correctly or it will begin to restrict the oil flow. If you do some research you will actually find that the older synthetic oil gets, the better its viscosity gets, and the better it lubricates.

SOOOO... You should have no problem going 6,000 or even 9,000 miles on synthetic oil as long as you change your filter every 3,000 miles or so. I'm not sure what the actually life for the filters in the colbats are, but it could be possible to pull 5,000 miles out of them. Just to be safe I would stick with about 3,000 miles. I usually go about 7,500 miles before I change the oil, but I always change the filter about half way at 3,500 miles or so. My engine still runs strong and the internals look almost as good as the day I bought the car and I have 40,000 miles on it.

Well cross rotating is used for most front and rear wheel drive cars. However on cars with directional tires (like the SS/SC has) you cannot cross rotate the tires. You can only rotate the tires from front to back on the same side.
