Tire Pressure Monitor

I was reading around, & I heard that the new Cobalts have tire pressure monitoring systems. Is this just a light on the dash that lights up when a tire is low, or does it display the tire pressure?

Curious--

i would imagine its integrated into the DIC somehow.

though you can buy them now with a separate display.
we use them on all of our large equipment at work.

& That's the small display by the tach?

So you do think that it shows the actual pressure of each wheel?

I'm pretty sure Cobalts don't have TPM's.

I could be wrong though. Has anyone ever seen a module in their rims, when switching tires?

The guy above ^^^, said that he/she thinks the new ones have them, & I also think I read that too. So we are very curious.

Damn! You found that really fast!

But the link does not work.

Here's the link I found, & it says it just sets a light off somewhere.

I think there's something like magnets in the wheels that relay the information..... A buddy of mine has a 04 Jeep Liberty Limited w/ a TPMS. & He has like magnets on the inside of the rim.

I just installed a set of chrome 18's on one of our 08 show room cobalts. The TPM sensors are a 2 piece design. The valve stem is rubber with a brass extension coming out of the bottom. The actual sensor bolts to the stem with a T-10 torex screw. You'll have to source the valve stems from GM but they are available and fit in any wheel.

There are also these ones, if you have the TPMS.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/wheels-tires-96/wheel-pressure-sensor-s-88327/

I am running them in my snows and they work perfect. Cost me less than $30 per sensor. Once installed, you need to have them re-learned at the dealer.

Later,
Brad

i have an 08 ls and mine has the TPMS, i just threw off the system because i put konig 18s on, the new rims + tires dont have the pressure sensor so the DIC is warning me of a malfunction. It used to show all four tires exact PSI according to the sensors. neat feature but for now it's not workign with the new tires. i might get some installed when i take them off to paint them later on.

The newest GM sensors are pretty decent.......but the Ford, Dodge, and many import sensors are complete garbage. Easy to break because they are fixed (the new gm ones can flex a bit) and also valve cores tend to get corroded in......which destroys the sensor. Most TPS are much more trouble than they're worth.

You can take them out of your stock wheels and put them in your Konigs. We do that all the time at my work.

Man I'm getting a 2009 SS/TC and i'm gonna need some WINTERS...haha MN.

Wow what to I do then?

--i'm sticking with aftermarket 18's when I buy them so the size might not be as much an issue.

---get some rims that can incorporate TPM's or do the ones for the BALT fit in all rims?

---I have to get the TPM's re-learned when putting on each set or when getting them rotated?

So I learned a little bit maybe...can anyone help?

Thanks

its not to hard to relearn the sensors all its for is so that the car knows what wheel is were so if u rotate them the car will just think its the same as it was. just if u ever get a tire thats low it will show its the LR for example but it will really be the LF.but if u wanna know how to relearn them let me know i can look it up for u on GM SI.it has something to do w/ getting it in learn mode the letting air out of the tires in a certain order. LF RF RR LR. its not too hard i had to do it a few times at work cuz our relearn tool was broken.
