So I'm trying to get my cold start issue fixed at a dealer. However, starting my car to get to the dealer is another story.. because it won't start. I used to be able to nudge it to start..

but now... it won't even bother.

Having it towed into the dealer, this should be fun.

For those of you having this problem: Get it fixed as soon as you can.

 

My Sedan is doing this. It failed to start at 20F.

 

Yeah when it gets under 30 it's wont start anymore.

I'm going to try to find someone with a hair dryer and a power inverter.

 

Does no one know what a BLOCK HEATER is?

I do but why buy one? Waste of money. The car shouldn't need a block heater till you get to like below 0 temps.

My LS is having fairly rough starts in the cold, usually the first start of the day only though... the dash rattles for a second and then it stops... temp is around 20-30 degrees..

 

This was the diagnosis of the problem:

 

They took most of the day to figure this out, unfortunately they closed right after they knew what it was. Gotta schedule next service around leaving for home (5 hours) and my finals.

 

Hey folks, I just had -30c windchill visit my car early on this winter and had no problems, (not plugged in either), but then I own a 2.4 and I do have a piece of cardboard in the front grill area!

 

What's a BLOCK HEATER ? J/K move to AZ no cold start issues here

I have been using a block heater now for the past 2 weeks (from toronto) I love having a warm engine to turn over in the morning! My temp readout is usually around 20C (celcius) around 70F.

Sure helps to get instant heat in the morning!

umm, i didn't think our cars had block heaters in them, or at least not the 2005 SS/SC, am I wrong or has everyone just bought one afterwards?

 

They don't stock, unless you're in Canada.

I do not have a cobalt, but I have had cold start problems. One thing that helped was the oil I used. In the winter I use 5w30 instead of 10w30 in the summer. Like I said I do not have a cobalt, I want one badly, so dont blame me if it does not work.

I don't even think they come stock in Canada on the SS...if I remember correctly Jason ended up buying one and getting installed earlier this year. My LS seems to act up slightly the colder it gets...best example is it has now started locking the doors in the morning the minute I start my car but only does this when temps are below -15C...other than that it cranks a little harder but has had no problems turning over. If it starts to get much colder though I may start looking at using my block heater...this can't be good for it.

 

i never used my block heater on my 96 Grand Am GT till i got about 300 000 km's on it, was getting old, she needed a lil umph in the morning lol kinda like us as we get older

 

40 Bucks at the dealer and is a breeze to install!
