If this thread comes out sounding wierd it may be the beers i pounded cause of the problems with my SS/SC... on to the problem, shift pattern broke off, got whole new shift assembly from dealer under warrenty, got installed, gears 2,4,R, yes gears going down, all pop out!! bad on down shifting too, always pop out on downshifting, what is wrong, dropped it off again, and gotta wait till morning to see what they say now. plus reverse while moving at a good speed sounds very bad!, real bad not normal like it used too, now thats about it, other then yeah it sound like a air/whistle noise now too from inside guess where shifter is, was not a noise there before, i am soooooo pissed off.... guess i'll see what dealer says tommorow, i bet another thing will be wrong now, take it to the dealer and another problem occurs

YES some one else is having my problem!!!!!!!! Ok enough of that, first question. You sure its a new assembly becuse ei have been waiting for one since september and Even the main gm offices said they don't carry replacement stock for them yet so the dealer would have to take it off a show room one if anything. I've sat there and watched my service guy call even the aftermarket acceseries place for gm and they had nothing either only fot the automatic cobalts. Second my 5th gear doesn't stay in gear worth a damn! It allways pops out during any kinda turn or bank on the highway. Been to the dealer a million times for it just to have it documented so that when i go in for a new tranny theres not argument.

 

your problem is different my 5th maybe popped out a couple times, but that was with first shifter assembly, but this "new" one pops out 2nd every time!, and 4th and R, feel the same as if it would pop out, and does not go all the way in like it used too, has to have new shift assembly in to do this, cause my shift pattern is NEW, and knob is new, and no ss/sc on the lot to take it off of... any help please and whats the noise

no it does not, i wish it did, going in reverse sound soooo much lounder and more clunking, i cant beleivee this, and they said nothing is wrong, and 2nd gear is still poping out on me! and either this shifter of tranny or clutch just sound like ****, i dont know what is going on, i need help on this guys, cause dealer is not helping at all, they think the sounds are in my head, and they think i dont know how to drive my car, when none of them having even stepped foot in SS/SC and driving one

 

when I shift into 2nd or 4th or downshift, it feels like something breaks and then I shift into 3rd, and it resets itself for 4th. I took it to the dealership but I have to stioll get it fixed. Let me ask you, will getting an after amrket short throw shifter solve this or no????? And/or what resolve have people gotten with this problem? Like I said I am having my dealer fix it but I would like to know what others are doing about this.

 

kinda sounds like the cables might not be adjusted properly

that or there is a realy problem in the trans

 

My gears are not popping out wants there it gear but once and a while 2nd and 3rd don't go in at all. and when I down shift into 2nd sometimes it grinds.

 

2nd and 4th I mean. It feels like something is broke when it happens but then I put in 3rd so it "resests" as my dealer says.

your problem is really different, has nothing at all in commin with my problem

 

2nd gears pops out on mine too sometimes - I have gotten used to keeping my hand on the shifter when using/going past 2nd.

 

same here but i've gotten so used to it i almost for got its does it. Its funny though when i let someone else drive my car and they grind second and can't find it for ****.

 

I have heard of this before. I can not remember were or when but I would like to agree that is sounds like the cables are out of adjustment. When the put the new assy in they probably did not know how to adjust them right. This would be true for both problems the one with 5th popping out and the other with noise on reverse and popping out in 2n and 4th. If I was you I would take it to another dealer or hound the dealer you are going to. If they still do not solve then call the GM service manager for that region and see if he can help things along.
